Sorry for the newb question but I am having a brain fart as I am sure I know the answer to this question, here it is:

A raid controller with two channels, where each channel can support four drives, is not restricted in terms of the creation of one logical drive which includes the drives from each channel, is it? So if I had four 1TB drives on each channel making up a total of 8 1TB drives, I could create one 8TB logical drive?

Thanks.

RAID cards aren't split up like that. If you're thinking that's what multilane ports mean/do, then you are mistaken. RAID cards do usually restrict the number of drives per array at a certain point, but it is normally a much higher number (like say 32 drives) and that is all on a firmware level. I can't think of an 8 port card out there that doesn't support having all 8 drives in the same array.
