First off thanks to all on this board, its a tremendous help.

Quick question...running a Q6600 on an ASUS PQ5 pro overclocked to 3.0ghz. I notice that when idle it kicks down to around 2ghz. This is fine for me since i prefer a quiet PC most of time.

Lets say i decide to play a game like CoH, Crysis, etc. Does the CPU ramp back up to 3ghz? Is my understanding correct here?

Thanks!!!

yes it does. You have some of the power saving features in your motherboard turned on in the bios. it kicks down when the CPU is idle. You can test it by downloading prime95 and starting it (it runs in a window) and then look at your CPU speed and make sure it jumps up.
