Allright, i have a somewhat weird observation:

Coming from an AMD machine with 2 cores, the C2D machine (now running for 2 or 3 months) actually "feels" slower. Don't get me wrong, all the benchmarks are in favor of the C2D and my games even get higher frames.

BUT! My windows XP seems to "react" slower, i don't want to say sluggish, but it just doesn't feel as zippy as my older AMD system. Or even for that matter, it seems not as zippy as one of our old Hyperthreading P4 PCs in Windows XP.

This is not due to spyware or anything, it happens after a fresh install as well. Another observation is that my Windows Install actually took a little LONGER than with the X2 chip....

Does anyone have a similar experience?

My setup:

C2D 6400 (no matter if stock or o/c to 3.2)
Giga DS3
2GB TeamSkill DDR2
1900XT

old AMD machine:

3800X2
DFI Ultra-d
2GB PQI DDR1
1900XT

You're on crack!

You need to have both PC's next to each other. Whats happened is you've gotten spoiled by many things being faster / instant. So every once in while when it hangs for a second, you're like "WTF!"

Most Windows lag involves HDD access as it takes next to no processor time to open windows inside XP, and depending on what you open, a lot of HDD time.

I would "strongly" suggest if there "is" a difference it is more likely to be HDD performance.

1. Check your MB driver are loaded esp SATA driver.
2. DO a DEFRAG , always after loading a new OS.
3. Use a HDD benchmark software, maybe Sandra or something to at least see your HDD speed is in the ballpark.

And remember, this is an egg "0 ", and this is your brain on crack"~~~~".

Just make sure the chipset drivers get installed right after installing XP.

I saw quite a difference going from a P4 to C2D.

Hmmm.....

i have my raptor boot drive on the first orange SATA controller (ICH8) and loaded the chipset drivers right after install.

Didn't do a defrag yet though. Maybe i'll do that and see. I might also be that I'm just a little spoiled after all these years.

yeah once you do a defrag im sure you'll boot up faster and notice a difference, if your defrag takes like 20+ minutes then you havnt defragged for awhile.. haha
