1. Built the computer in my sig with you guys before and now I am looking to build a computer for my dad. He will be using it for general use, mainly multitasking.

2. Budget is around $400 (flexible)

3. USA

4. Parts wise he needs everything for now except a gpu and case. He has an old dell but I have a feeling it will be a bad idea using parts from it. So ram, cpu, mb, dvd drive, hard drive, psu, aftermarket cooler.

5. none for now, 5-6 yr old dell seems not worth it

7. 19'' monitor

8. The PC will be built when i return home so around August 13th. I will be buying August 6th so about 2 weeks. Just doing this in advance to get an idea.

Only used newegg for now. Been looking more as newegg blows on prices. After market cooler he doesnt need anything crazy (around $30). I am mainly trying to whittle the prices down and double check everything by you guys.

Price wise its most effective to post within a week or 2 so we can use combo deals and promotions.

I was going to get 212 plus but couldnt find a deal better than the microcenter one for $27 shipped.
 
Why the hell are you overclocking your fathers computer? Waste of time and adds possible instability to his system. Overclocking for "general use" is worthless.

I disagree with almost all of your part choices unfortunately. Going with AM2+ is like going with LGA775, its old, move onto AM3 and don't look back.

Go with Phenom II X4 925 + Gigabyte/Asus 880G + 4GB G.Skill DDR3-1333 + Corsair 400CX.

What case do you have? What os do you have?

yeah really? If its a basic daily task machine overclocking is waste of time. Use the money you would spend on the aftermarket cooler and get a more powerful stock cpu.

This isn't open to questions. He wanted to learn about it so I am doing it. If you dont like it piss the fuck off. All I am looking for is help on the build. I dont want your opinions on overclocking so dont give them.

@shadowsong: I am using a sonata III I used before, that is done. He has windows 7 64 bit. I will check out the AM3.
 
Better watch your attitude here pal, everyone was just offering logical advice to you. You didn't say anything about him wanting to learn so how could we have known? Every person who comes in here saying they want to overclock for their parent or friend who doesn't need it we tell them not to because it is a waste of time and resources. Needless to say, I don't think anyone here is going to help you after that little outburst...

Man fuck you both, get out of this thread. I am looking for build help, not opinions on overclocking. I came in, I explained what I was looking for. I try to be nice about it. I am open to opinions. I dont want opinions on what to do with the computer. And "knods" is spelled "nods" you dumb fucktard.

EDIT: Also I didnt destroy your response. If you read, I am looking at AM3 currently. You gave no BUILD opinions, you gave OVERCLOCKING opinions. I dont want the latter, I am looking for help on the first. Also your rude ass needs to learn some manners. You dont come into a thread asking "what the hell are you doing overclocking it". IF you had asking me "why are you overclocking?". I would have explained it nicely but you did not.
