Geil ram?

if you have the money (around $300 for a gig, $170 512mb) don't even consider anything besides winbond bh-5 based chips....my favorite is Mushkin pc3500 lvl2 black as I have mine running 520mhz 2-2-2-5 @ 3.4v.

If not, Geil is a viable alternative. But be warned, with pretty much all chips other than bh-5, it's hit or miss about 50% whether you get a crap stick or a good stick. Thats why I shelled out for the bh-5 now. Plus, if you get bh-5 now, you can likely break even on it or maybe even profit on it if you sell it at the right time since its out of production but everybody wants it. THe general consenseous right now is that mushkin pc3500 black lvl2 is the best ram on the market, followed by corsair and kingston. ocz is supposed to be decent too, but I have never had any experience with them. Geil is hit or miss pretty much...but if you hit:eek: :D  . I think one guy had ddr600 with a geil stick.

What about the 3200 Level II 2x256? As it costs an arm and a leg this would fit my budget. Any comments on this stuff?

Also, alot of people are having mad issues with this ram and an IS7. If I have any issues with my IS7 I will sell it and get an Asus. My last IS7 wen through 5 types of ram and overall the generic and buffalo beat out the corsair xms 3200-3500c2 rev 1.1 and 1.2, corsair twinxx 3200ll rev1.2, and the kingston hyperx4000.

thanks for the reply!

that should be fine....and it will have no issues with motherboards since it is a bh-5 based stick. People are having issues with the lvl1 ram because that is ch-5 based.

My geil 4200 will do 295fsb 1:1, chip wont go higher. I've seen it over 300fsb,

I have 2 sticks of a year old geil 3500 that will do 245 1:1 cas 2-2-2-6. Guessing they are BH-5's. That was the original sticks i had in my IS7-e

I've got 4 sticks of geil 3500 now, Got them for $43 each i couldnt refuse. 256 stick. I have mushkin lvl2. But I've had better luck with kingston BH-5 sticks.

I have used and put in customers computers probably 40 sticks of geil and no problems.

IS7's arent to picky about ram, or at least i havent tried any in it that it didnt like.

This is my last attempt if all else fails im going the Xeon route. ASUS Intel 82875P PC-DL Deluxe maybe...hehe

I love my Geil PC4200 Platinum (see sig) on my IS7-E, it Overclock's like a mother and is really pretty.
