Hello all,
I am having a problem with a card that was purchased for me Sunday. I found this site via BFG's list of resources (the reason Im posting). If anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Sunday I installed my card which is a BFG 256MB 5200GFX and it work with problem until this morning. When I booted up it and passed the Windows XP screen, the monitor would go black as if in power saving mode.

It was suggested by BFG to lower my refresh rate to 60MHz, however no monitor is listed in safe mode. :( I also tried reinstalling Windows XP, but it was no joy.

Also, after install the drivers and adjust any settings in the Display settings, my screen goes black with garbeled letters on it, then shuts off. It is set to 8bit color at 800x600 display (but the quality looks as if it is set much higher).

P4 2.0GHz CPU w/ 512
512 RDRAM
40GB Maxtor HD
KDS Visual Sensastions 19" VS1901s Monitor
Upgraded from an Elsa Gladiac 64MB DDR GeForce 2 Ultra

I've also tried installing the latest video drivers from nVidia, but no luck with that either. By the way, the IRQ setting is 16 if that matters.

Again, if anyone could provide some suggestions on this it would be appreciated because I am truly at the end of my rope.

Thanks!:(

Try the nVidia Nasty File Remover. (It's on www.guru3d.com)

Boot up into safe mode, remove any ghost drivers from your old video card, run NFR, reboot into normal mode, and install the latest Forceware drivers.

Thanks for the reply and help. :)

I downloaded the Nast File Remover and also the new Forceware drivers from guru3d.com. After removing and uninstalling all nvidia drivers and removing the video card from Device manager, I rebooted and installed the new drivers.

When I restarted the system the monitor still powers off. It is really confusing me because it was working for over a day and a half with no problems. :(

Thanks,
Luke

I have a couple more questions about this (still isn't resolved after another clean install) and then I will stop 'bugging' everyone

If my powersupply was the problem, then would installing the drivers cause it to stop functioning? As I said, it can boot in safe mode and/or if I do not have the actual nVidia drivers installed for it.

Also, since it was already working for a day then stopped, would this be most likely related to drivers and software or a hardware problem/?

Thanks in advance!

I am having the exact same problem with my Geforce FX 5600, and I have yet to find a solution for it.

I think i have heard a few people having to resort to going back to the old det 41's and older to solve this;)Just google around or grab a copy of the old detnator drivers then use the nasty file remover and install the old detnators ;) Hope it helps?

Just to update everyone, I was finally able to get the nVidia drivers installed and the card is working (for now anyway).

I found the 45.23 drivers that I had on hand for my GeForce 2 card and installed them. I then reinstalled the 52. drivers which was included on the BFG disk.

I've been playing CoD and a few other games, but this time around I have been noticing a lot of hangs and/or lower frame rates. Any ideas as to what that might be? Also, would a GFX 5700 Ultra or 5900SE be worth the extra amount as for as in-game quality is concerned (not frame rates)?

Thanks all for the help!!! :D
