Hi, I was wondering if anybody could tell me how I could go about overclocking my video card?

hey cool, thanks man! ok, my default core setting is 220mhz and I can go as high as 315mhz. I tested it at 315 and it was completely stable, but is this dangerous? I set it back to default for now, but how high would it be safe to go do you guys think without having to worry about frying my card within the next year? Plus, I always thought having more card memory gave you better performance, guess I'm still a newb. So does this mean that my gaming performance will be way better at 315? :D

Before I got my new card I had a MSI gf 4 440 8x. It did very good at over clocking. I forget the numbers right now but it was way beyond stock and never had a problem at all with it. I have a side case fan that blows right at the APG slot and I guess that helped cool it as mine just has a passive heat sink on it.

Good luck on your over clocking and hope you had as good luck as I did with that card.

cool, thanks man. im going to try 315 on a few games and see what happens. I also had another question. My card is a 64mb and in my bios it has the option to let me change it all the way up to 256mb. What would happen if i upped it to 128? anything at all?

I guess it would think it has 128MB when it really only has 64MB and half of yur stores grpahic textures would "Mysteriously Disappear". Hey, its just a guess... I have a Geforece4 MX440 too! Sweet video card! Well, maybe no tin the eys of most people, but its better then a Rage Pro 8MB! I would like to try overclocking my videocard... Where can I download this "Rivatuner"?

Nevermind. I downloaded it, installed it, and am running it right now...

let us know what kinda fps increases you get... im interested cuz I honestly didn't think it would be worth it

hey ok cool, i know this is a dumb question, but how do i get it to show the fps counter in my games? i'll do the testing right now :D

Depends on the game, as to what the command is to show frames.

But if you want to see frames in every game you play, http://www.fraps.com/ works great.

cool thanks, i downloaded that. playing medal of honor, i tried my card at stock speeds of 250 and also at 300 mhz. and both fps were in the 90's. Not much of a difference really. i don't have too many pc games right now, but the other ones i tried are capped at the 35 fps area limit. like CC Generals and stuff. hmmm. cool though. i'll keep this in mind for when i get more games.

coool, yeah for sure. It's definitely no 9800 pro or anything, but like you say, it still IS a decent video card coming from only using the stock crap that comes with a lot of computers like i had before on my old one. It is SWEEET, because you can run multiple monitors, desktops, have a desktop shell, and run cool effects like windows minimizing and maximizing wayyy faster, transparancy, ect. Deffinitely rocks! Though, I have seen in some games where i could have the need for a better card, but it's good for now. i'm not playing games as much as i was and i am spending more of time mulitasking and stuff, so i'll be putting my money into a new board, chip, ram, and faster hard drives before i get another card. ;o)

Have you tried overclocking the RAM yet? As I recall, the MX series benefits quite a bit from RAM overclocking.

Additional memory past 64MB onboard the card is beneficial primarily at high resolutions, with large textures or when using antialiasing.

I had a Gainward GF4 MX440 that would do 300/500. The RAM would do higher but Coolbits was maxed at 500.:(
