Does anyone notice a difference how the two cards render black? I remember reading somewhere
that the radeon renders black a little grayish sometimes. Any truth to that?
Does anyone notice any differences between the two cards rendering on any colors?

I think it may vary based on the quality of the components on each particular brand card.

I think your monitor is more important really alot of LCD's do have a greyish black but you can tweak the colours in the control panel (and you monitor) so as long as you have a decent screen you should get black when you want black.

The monitor makes a huge difference. I've got 2 21" screens at work, a Dell P1130 and an NEC FE1250+. The NEC produces a much blacker black. Hell, it's even obvious when the screens are turned off.
My Hitachi CM823F at home is pretty black, but suffers from a lot of bleeding of bright areas into the black. Kinda crappy for graphics work, but text is really sharp (I'm a programmer, this is important) & my games look fine, so I don't really care.
