I though I was doing my parents a favor when I bought them this new card. However its all installed and everything but it crashes the computer when ever it hits close to full load. I am sure its this card because the computer is claiming that this card and one of is drivers compondents is causing the shut down. I have tried the provided drivers and the latest nvidia but the problem still presist. If anyone could help with this that would be great cause I am going back to college soon and I need to have this computer fixed so I dont have to hear about how its always broken.
 
lemme get this straight.. you said the system was crushing when runing close to full load - does it involve 3D graphics, or you're talking bout plain 2D? what's the AGP clock?
 
That's really weird. What are the full specs? Even a GF4MX can overheat under bad enough conditions and crash. But if it's just "at full load" and nothing's really using the card, it sounds more like a CPU or RAM problem than a graphics card problem.

Specifically, give us:
-Cooling setup
-Memory layout (sticks, sizes)
-CPU & HSF
-Power supply (brand, rail ratings, overall output rating)
-Anything in the computer that uses power (PCI cards, hard drives, optical drives, etc.)
 
ALright cooling is good its got 3 80mm circulating the air around.
It has a wireless pci network card, and the graphics card thats it for expansion slots.
The ram is 256mb of whatever he bought the computer with its generic for sure but its probably of decent quality cause the store where they bought it is know for dependiblity.
I am thinking it could be a power supply problem because last week someone was setting up christmas lights and turned of the wrong curcuit and shut of the computer. He does have a power strip but I dont now how great it is not something I would use prolly. Orginally the computer was my parents and my bro used it for gaming. He had a 9600pro in it before, however after the power incident the computer stopped working. For christmas I took the 9600 pro out for my brother and built him a new computer of his own. I reformatted the parents computer that he used to us because he destroyed it with spywear and stuff. I put the MX400 in there then on the fresh install after the format. Next I put the 9600pro in my brothers new computer and it would not work he ended up messing up the anolog port and with a converter the DVI works just fine. So the problem has to either be the graphics card or the PSU. I have a spare ATI cheap 32mb card I might uninstall all the mx400 drivers and install the ATI and see if it works with out crashing I highly doubt it will. So I am putting my cash on the power supply being screwed cause its a cheap on that came with the case. And it all happens when just starting the computer like once windows hits if i start up IE or Update service it will sometimes just freeze for 5 sec then restart.
BTW the card is the MX4000

reformat and install ati card you mentioned


If that doesnt work try a new psu.
 
did you check the AGP clock? it might be that you're simply running way beyond the specs.. try changing AGP mode to x2 - just for kicks.. make sure the card itself is properly cooled - does it have a fan or just radiator? make sure the fan is spinning, or does the radiator gets warm.. if nothing helps try it in different comp..
 
did you uninstall the previous card's drivers? how about disabling onboard graphics?

I agree, did you uninstall the previous card's drivers (safe mode using driver cleaner 3). Also if it was onboard did you disable the onboard graphics....
 
I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled windows so old drivers should not be a problem.
I am thinking power supply, I could put it in my computer and see if it works right. But that might just be a waste of time.
