I have a Albatron Geforce fx5900xt right now and I'm not very happy with the performance anymore.I've had it since december.I was happy then but now it's time to move on.
What card could i get.I'm shooting for $250 tops
(new egg of course)
also should I think about getting a pci express mobo or just wait till I absolutely need it and the video cards start taking advantage and becoming broader selections?

Amd 64 socket 754 3000+(stock)(water cooled)
80gb 7200 rpm sata WD
Albatron Geforce FX5900xt(water cooled)
1gb corsair value

You can get a 6600GT(~$150 for AGP) which provides some improvement over your 5900 although I'm not sure if it'll be worth it for you.

On the other hand, strech your budget another $50 and get a 6800GT which will definately provide some improvement...
 
I heard that like almost every summer,Nvidia is going to be releasing new cards.Do you think the prices will drop in the currently available agp cards?

$250 budget = 6800NU.

They're great overclocking cards - with that watercooling setup you have, you could probably get some truly awesome clocks.

300 dollar price tag of a 6800GT or a 250 dollar price tag of a Vanilla 6800 arent going anywhere this year, promise you that. Look at yearly price drop trends, these cards are as low as their ever going to get before cost per card turns into the actual cost of the card.

9800XT = $300US cheapest retail
 
Do like I did - sell your 5900 (I had a BFG 5900 Ultra) on Ebay and get enough out of it to buy a 6600GT. It was like doing a even trade for me and that was before the $20 rebate I'm going to get. Can't beat that. :D

The 9800xt was always overpriced. The 9800pro goes for $150 or less USD.
 
No one has answered my second part(I love the responses so far though)

Here's my take on that. IF I was going to plunk down $350+ on a video card (that ain't gonna happen ;) ) I'd probably get a PCI-E one just to make sure it was going to last a while. The way I switch cards though, I always go for the most bang for the buck and swap often like I did with my old 5900 Ultra - which I had bought used BTW and sold it on Ebay for a preminum and then getting the Evga 6600GT. I'm sure I'll probably pass this one down to my son and upgrade to a 6800 Ultra when the prices drop to $200 (used) or something like that. Back to your question, unless your wanting a new motherboard, I wouldn't worry too much about the AGP vs. PCI-E deal since there are no real price or performance atvantages one way or the other.

hmmm....I would just get a 6800gt for 300 bucks RIGHT NOW!! hehe..yes it's a tad over your budget..but it will eat up the 6800nu/6600gt..
 
250 bucks can get you a decent replacement. But you can also sell the 5900xt to a friend and add money to get an even better one :)
