GeForce FX5800

Hey All.
I have been thinking about a thing. The nVidia GeForce FX5800.
You'll never hear about it. I mean. You never hear about people who have this card. It came before FX5700 and have an older GPU version. But it costs a LOT of more money than 5700.
It also have lower clocks. After my research it looks like that the FX5700 is better, but FX5800 is more costly.

What is the meaning in that.?!
 
The FX5800U has 8 pipelines, so even though it may be clocked lower, it is a better card. The thing is, not very many of them were made as they were replaced by the 5900 in the same way the 5500 was replaced by the 5600.

Oh, and the 5800U uses GDDR2, which tends to be more expensive to produce.

And theres a thing more i dont understand.
Why are the FX5900 better than FX5900XT.??
Normally the XT cards is better than the normal non-XT card.
But not when were talking about those cards.?!
 
I have a 5800 which works well... it's not the fastest card anymore, but it works.

I removed the HSF and now use watercooling, with which I can OC more easily. The noise was also unbearable, but is under control with the W/C.

for the non-ultra versions:

FX 5800: NV30, 8 pipelines, 400MHz core, 128-bit memory interface, 800MHz memory (12.8GB/s bandwidth), 2 slot cooling (not dustbuster)
FX 5900: NV35, 8 pipelines, 400MHz core, 256-bit memory interface, 800-850MHz memory (25.6-27.2GB/s bandwidth), 2 slot card with 1 slot cooling

The differences between the NV30 and NV35:
128-bit memory bus vs 256-bit memory bus
floating point shader performance doubled
better color and geometry compression
ultrashadow
runs cooler

newegg had some 5800s last week for $109. I hope you're not paying much more than that since it's not a great performer. Due to the limited memory bandwidth, performance nodedives in higher resolutions (1280x1024 and higher... see the reviews). You can get a refurbished 9700 Pro from crucial for $129.99 or a new 9800 Pro from outpost.com for $180.

Im from Denmark, then i can't buy from the webshops in USA :(.
Hardware is really cheap here DK.

I'm from Denmark too(dav dav der) and hardware is NOT cheap in DK, quite the opposite...
UK, Germany are a lot cheaper than DK prices, even via mailorder ;)
Just have it giftwrapped if possible ;)

Terra - Danish taxes SUCKS bigtime!!!

I have only seen more cheaper prices here in DK, if you compare it with Germany.
We have cheap prices :)
