GeForce 8800 Ultra 768MB

I still thinks Ultras are a waste.

Not much better than a normal GTX.

Still nice though. :)

Not a bad price at all. You should be able to oc that sucker pretty well, at least to 670 core. I've got a stock oc'ed MSI 8800 Ultra that cost $750. It's really to much card for the rest of my rig, but this is like the last major thing I'm doing to this box until its retired.

When it comes to oc'ing Ultra's, you can get about 10% above even a highly oc'ed GTX, so at a price point of around $690, you're getting close to a one to one ratio of the price-performance differential over a GTX.

i am just getting components togther to upgrade from amd 4800. just cancelled my pny 8800gtx oced to the evga as i saw the hugh price drop.

That PNY 8800 Ultra looks pretty slick, nice price drop!

If you already have a GTX, there's no point in an Ultra. But if you're looking to get into an 8800 GTX, Ultra's are not that much more when compared to the more exspensive GTX's. Still not worth it to most, but it looks as though the high price was just the initial gouging that occurs with new high-end GPU's all the time.

I don't think that the 8800 Ultra set any new price threshold as many were claiming. A month after the 7800 512 GTX was introduced at the end of 2005, they were more exspensive (and rarer).

Those are the prices I thought would be the correct ones for the Ultra, at launch. Nice to see them be set to something much lower than the $829 nonesense.

Newegg has the PNY for $669 without any need for rebate shenanigans.

Still to rich for my blood given I've got 8800gtx. But, definitely more reasonable. Not much more than I originally paid for six month-old technology.

I haven't seen too many "hey check out my 8800 ultra(s)" posts either.. I don't think too many rushed out to buy them.. the market was already flooded with 8800GTXs and they are just too close in performance comparison with the 8800GTX to justify the cost difference.. while I like the fact that the brought back the "ultra" branding, the execution of this launch wasn't terribly well thought out imo. well, if they really intended to move these cards to the consumer that is.. either they should have bit the bullet and make them much less expensive, or gosh.. just done nothing and redirected those resources to their next gen tech.. but I guess they just wanted "something" to bring to the table to but heads with the r600.. oh dwell. I think we'll be seeing the price on the ultras keep falling as time marches on and they keep not flying off shelves.

yeah it's the inq..(big *sigh*) but the info seems to validate all of the recent price drops.. er, and / or vice-versa.. I had a feeling this would be happening otherwise they just not going to move these cards..

Well the 2900XT 1GB (ddr4 I believe) are going to be out in a week or two for 100 more. Nvidia doesn't have too much to worry about, but they want to drop the the price of the GTX and ultra down to keep there market share, and keep sales going.

It was just stupid to have it at 829, but they prob thought that the x2900XTX was gonna be hot shit, instead it was just to hot.

I'd spring for the PNY, just because it looks cooler.

Hehe no pun intended.

I doubt the performance of the R600 surprised nvidia all that much. I always assume that they have a pretty good idea of what the other is up to.

that's just dumb then. my vanilla evga gtx clocks 650/2200 at 71C load.

whatever then.

:)
