VR-Zone says NVIDIA will launch its 8600 series on April 17th. While this is just an unconfirmed rumor, I thought it was odd that they would name an exact date.

NVIDIA is set to launch mainstream 8600GTS (G84-400) and 8600GT (G84-300) as well as 8500GT (G86-300) on 17th of April. GeForce 8600GTS and 8600GT will have 256MB GDDR3 memories onboard and sports 128-bit memory interface but no HDMI yet. GeForce 8600GTS is meant to replace 7950GT and 7900GS while 8600GT to replace 7600GT and 8500GT to replace 7600GS.

How are they supposed to supplant parts with higher performance? I mean, unless there is a huge performance increace, then these parts will all be held back by their 128-bit bus. I can see the 8500 having a 128bit bus, but the 8600s should have a 256-bit one if they are replacing parts that have a 256 bit bus.

There will also be an 8600 Ultra, according to early specs. That will have a 256-bit bus and replace the 7900GTX.
As for bus width holding it back, was the 6600GT with its 128-bit bus really that much slower than a Radeon 9800 Pro or GeForce FX5950 Ultra?

I hope the 8600's are as powerful in their price range as the 8800's are in theirs. If so, they could be the best bargain since the 4200. Well, that is if they get drivers that are worth a crap.

The 8600 Ultra will be a real great DX10 buy.

Well is there going to be an 8600 Ultra? This news bit doesn't even list it and I heard there wasn't going to be an Ultra. Is this confirmed that they are even releasing it?

I hope there is one...those others aren't as impressive looking as I'd hoped.
