GeForce 6800 GTO Texture Flickering

I got a new computer recently. Yes, it's a Dell - please don't give me too much grief... Anyway, at first I was only running Final Fantasy XI and it worked great, but after a couple of days, textures started flickering in and out rapidly. I also installed Doom 3 and 3DMark05 - both have the same problem. Now the flickering is constant. I aslo checked the temperature and after 20 minutes of flickering Doom 3, the temp was at about 71, which from what I gather shouldn't be a problem.

Dell Support was totally unable to help me out. There aren't any problems with viewing Windows itself, so they think it isn't a hardware issue - but I suspect otherwise. Any ideas?

The system is:
3.4 GHz Pentium 4
1 G RAM
256 MB Nvidia Geforce 6800 GTO (running 67.66 Forceware, or whatever the new beta is...)
What else is important...
I've got Directx 9.0c
 
Go back to the original drivers. If it's still flickering, the card may be bad.
 
I'll give that a try this evening, but I'm skeptical, only because I didn't install any new drivers until after the flickering started -- I downloaded new drivers to try and solve the flickering problem...

What's strangest to me is that it started happening while I was playinf Final Fantasy XI, after about 8 hours of flicker-less play time. And now it happens all the time. I wonder if:
a) it could've overheated once for some reason and caused some permanent damage
b) I wonder if static could be an issue? There's certainly a lot of cat hair sticking to the computer case...
c) Could my problem be as simple as the card not being seated properly?
