geforce 6800 + 2ghz Duron = Slow?

I just through a 6800 in my chepo rig, hoping to be able to play some games without going through a massive system change (which would constitute spending, and having, cash). So I run DooM 3 benches......1024x768, 4x AA 8x AF. 34 fps? That seems kind of low to me.....so then I run 3dMark 05, get a score of 2700 something. This seems shockingly low......

sys specs are:
Duron 1.8 @ `2.0
756mb (512, 256) pc2700 sync @ 150 fsb
eVga 6800 vanilla
xp pro
 
Yeah, its your processor. A nice A64 3000 will nearly double those scores.
 
Yeah. That's low.

My rig (6800NU (stock speed but has extra pipes unlocked), A64 2800+, 1GB PC3200) gets mid-9000s in 3dmark03, and timedemos at about 57FPS in doom3 (1024x768 high settings).
 
For myself, I had never really realized how bad a Duron was until I finally moved to an Athlon xp back in 2002. Went from a 1.3 Duron to a 2000+ xp (1.6ghz) and my framerates literally doubled. Not a gaming chip, that is for sure.
 
so what do you guys recomend I do?

I'm getting a job once swim season is over (~2 weeks).....so I'll get my hands on some cash. Should I sell my current setup (cpu, RAM, and mobo) and go with an A64? I'm going to israel in the summer and would like to take my comp with me, so maybe some sort of sff?

will 512mb of Dual Channel DDR be better then 756mb of slower single channel RAM ?

if you know how manage ram right so you can game on it good yes it should be
but you should get 90mb ram usage on cntrl alt delete when u first boot to be "manageing your ram good"
 
A64 3000+ on CPU would be a really nice upgrade, and they are pretty cheap, a nice motherboard to go along with it and some good Ram, 1gig of it if you can. You should be fine moving everything else over.
 
I was thinking just upgrade your processor for now.

But that outpost $199 deal is pretty nice.
The mobo is ok - not great. But still a huge step up from what you have.
 
I had a bfg 6800 oc installed on my Sempron 2200+ @ 1.8GHz (400MHz FSB, 256KB L2) and performance wasn't that great. I put a Ti4200 in it instead since the computer was too slow to take advantage of the 6800.
 
I had originally planned to drop an X800 XTPE in an 1800+ system. In the end, it took that long to arrive that I cancelled, upgraded the whole lot and got a 6800Ultra :D
 
It's strange that in a 99.99% video card based benchmark you get such a low score, I would dig deeper(format/latest drivers/bios etc)
 
His 2ghz Duron is about equal to a AXP 1500+. If it wasnt rated at 2ghz it probably wouldnt even be able to run the benchmark......
 
oh, my agp bus is also 4x, off the km266pro....(or does the southbridge control agp on these older systems? I know it's northbridge on some of the k8 chips....)
