A current PC offer from the German manufacturer Medion comes with a "Nvidia Geforce 6610 128 MB PCI-E" graphics card. Anybody out there with more information on this card, is it a retail version or OEM only? Rumours are that the performance is somewhere between the 6600 and 6600GT, maybe more like a 9800Pro.

Here's the PC ad in norwegian, you can still understand some of the specs though

I'll go the store and check it out, if the PSU is good it's a decent offer.

I found info on it at computerbase.de

400MHz core
800MHz GDDR3 memory

so it's between a 6600 and 6600GT. It looks like it would be pretty overclockable with those specs. MSI is supposed to have a retail version of it (6610 XL, but not using the name): http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/vga/vga/pro_vga_detail.php?UID=635

• Memory Clock Speed: 800MHz
• Engine Clock Speed: 400MHz
• Memory Interface: 128-bit

I actually fell for the offer and bought the pc.

MSI MB w/ 915 chipset
3.4 GHz P4
512 MB 400 MHz RAM
250 GB Seagate 7200 rpm
Nvidia 6610 XL, no tv-out
Creatix (?) TV/PVR card w/timeshift and remote control
WLAN 54Mbs
Bluetooth transmitter/receiver
A multitude of card readers
SP-DIF i/o
Optical i/o
6x USB, 2x Firewire
SCART(european version of component)/S-video/composite tv-outs out on the chassis.
RF wireless keyboard and mouse
(no monitor or speakers)

Cost about $1300-1400, which is quite a bargain in Norway for this kind of power and versatility ... except the TV-tuner is crap.
PC Mark 03 b360 almost 7000, so the 6610 is definitely faster than the 9800Pro. The vid card has no tv-out, these are integrated in the chassis

If something like this retailed for $150 or less, it'd sell really fast (if they released an AGP that wasn't overpriced).

You could probably overclock to 6600GT speeds.

Overclocked the 6610 XL with coolbits 2.0, using the "Detect optimal frequencies" command. The result was 494 MHz on the core and 988 MHz on the memory (default 400/800), which I guess is pretty close to the 6600GT default settings. Have no previous experience with coolbits, so I'm not sure how wise it is to overclock any further. Any thoughts?

I think it's still OEM only, at least in europe. Based on the default performance a retail version should be about 20% cheaper than a 6600GT PCI-E.

Got 3450 points in 3D Mark05 with the setup described above and 490/980 oc.

Unless it's priced significantly less then the GT ($150 as apposed to $250 CDN) then it's a bit of a waste of money.

i agree. but since it has the same memory type couldnt it be oc'd to practically 6600gt speeds?

ya but with the GT you could OC it to great speeds.

Unless it's more then 50 dollars cheaper, It has no point
