Okay, before anyone says I need to change to pci-express or my computer is too old, this setup is an old backup rig for my gf who doesn't play any crazy new games, so I don't want to throw away money on a new tower if this one does the job fine.

Now, back to the topic. The rig: athlon xp 1700+, 1.5 gb of ram, 19 inch viewsonic monitor, abit kr7a-raid, 40 gb ide hard drive, geforce 4 mx440 (obviously), windows xp pro service pack 3. I was wondering which drivers would give me would give me a max resolution of 1440 x 900 without sacrificing too much of a performance hit on games. I'm using 44.03 drivers at the moment, but they don't support this resolution. I know the newer drivers support this resolution, but the performance is horrible. Any ideas?

the card wont play games for crap. as you already stated. Web surfing machine, solitaire gamer.

it plays counterstike 1.6, diablo 2, starcraft, and warcraft 3 just fine. Thats the games thats usually being played on that computer.

its just hard to find drivers or support for old stuff like that. only suggestion i can make is try

maybe can find an old driver better then one you are using.

As far as drivers, these 93.71 are the latest.. Using the latest drivers may not always be the fastest but it is the best due to bug fixes and added support.

Here are the latest Omega drivers. Scroll down the page and click "Agree" to start the DL.

Latest chipset drivers for your mobo.

LOL, where do people like this come from? They act like all the games pre 2002 suddenly dissapear when new games come out. That machine will play AVP2, CnC Generals and lotsa other games from that era so you sir are a living epic fail :)

Hell, I used a PII 400, 256mb SDRam and GF2 MX200 to play CnC Generals, AVP2 and other games so I know for sure that machine iwll play games, matter of a fact, it will play shitloads of games., hundreds thousands and even hundreds of thousands of games @_@

Actually it took me about 5 seconds to find the latest drivers for that card on nvidia's website.

the latest drivers plays counterstike 1.6 very horribly. I switched back to 44.03's and the performance was like night and day. I just need someone who actually experienced what Im going through and can recommend a few drivers I can try. I just downloaded 53.03 and 66.93 drivers and will test them when I get home from work today. And fyi, I use to be in CAL with this rig back in 03-04, so this computer isn't just good for solitaire lol.

Does it play horribly at the same resolutions that the old drivers limited you to, or did you just try it at 1440x900?

I want my desktop resolution to be 1440x900, in games i play at a lower resolution. 800x600 and 1024x768. The new drivers were bad at those resolutions compared to the older drivers

I played Counter-Strike: Source pretty damn well with a GeForce 4 MX420 using some 3D Analyze tweaks. The game looked pretty good, too. All the settings were on high except for AA and AF.

The later drivers drop features/support of old GeForce cards, like 2D acceleration, I've actually had this happen on an old rig, anything done in windows desktop felt like a 386 running windowsXP. Though I gotta say, the 3D stuff always worked pretty no matter what version.

Sorry, I can't help, but I've felt your pain before, hope the resolution fix works for ya!

well, the 44.03 didnt have the custom resolution settings. Didnt get a chance to try different drivers yesterday, but maybe I can get more opinions here before i try different drivers after work. Anyone?

Typically you would use the nvidia archive and after determinng the era of your card, choose the latest driver for that era. If memory serves it would be the 66.93
