I purchased a Gecube 9800xt last year, the fan has failed and warranty is covering it.

The supplier has said the product has been discontinued, and said i can upgrade to Gecube 9800pro.

The 9800xt was 256mb with 128bit memory. while the 9800pro is 128mb with 256 bit memory. They are asking for a small amount for the upgrade. Am i being ripped or is it really an upgrade. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Personally I think you're getting ripped off because the card they are sending you is...
A. Clocked lower
B. 128mb

But it has 256bit memory so I wouldn't worry too much, just overclock it a bit....

If GeCube wants money to replace it then I would be complaining.

But why not just replace the fan?

the card has to be sent from the retailer to supplier then to taiwan from new zealand. They said it would take approximately 1.5 months for this. I don't want to wait that long. Plus it was sitting in my box for about an hour or so overheating before i noticed, so no doubt theres damage to the card.

I thought the trade of would be ok, theres only like the 30mhz difference and no one ever uses 256mb of memory anyway plus its 256bit as opposed to the 128bit. I can talk my way out of the fee to i guess.

note: oh and the retailer is asking for the fee not Gecube.

why not just replace the heatsink with a zalman or arctic cooler?

or is it that the card is f00ked?

newer games like HL2 and Doom 3 use the memory in higher res and AA and AF. and like the guy above... why not replace the fan?
