gbit switch [8 port, 5, i guess ok!]

: unmanaged [managed? if affordable] layer 2 gbit switch

: non-blocking, full duplex, packet forwarding @ wire speed

: full speed backplane [1000 x # of ports x 2 [full-duplex]

: handle magic packets

: flow control [esp. for full duplex]

: Auto-Negotiation [NWay], Auto Uplink [MDI/MDI-X]

: jumbo frames >= 9k

: forwarding rate >= 1.5e6 [full-duplex mode]

: atleast 2k mac address table

: able to add more ports [expand] easily by adding more switches later with a corssover cable,
[unless switches with stack/up-link ports have dramatically reduced in price,] and without
much latency. [i guess partitioning n bridging, to reduce/isolate traffic and latency, is out
of the question without going to the more expensive layer2/3 managed switches.]

: good reliability [longevity] and uptime

: these indicator leds would be gr8-
power, collision/rx/tx, duplex, link and speed indicators for each port

: VLAN [optiona], bandwidth control [optional]

dont worry bout the leds, vlan or bandwidth control, if theyre there its very good,
if not its okay as long as the other [not necessarily all] requirements are met.

btw. ive looked @ these 2 models ZyXEL GS-108 & NETGEAR GS108, if u have any
comments about them please let me know. thanx.
