Gateway or Vaio?

cant say people will agree it was a wise choice but i opted for the Gateway MT6451 it says 850 on their website but i got it for 700 at the store in sioux falls a few weeks back. i like it battery life could be better but AMD arent quite as good as intel yet... but for myself all i get is AMD. :D

It depends on what you want, or are looking for in a laptop.
You are comparing a 17 v a 15.4 which is a big thing.

Overall they seemed to have similar specs, price is a factor seeing as the Sony is more.
Any comments of the use, and portability you are looking for here?

Gateway over Sony hands down for laptops. I refurb laptops for a living, Gateways are really a very reliable and decently built laptop for the price, and their tech support is above average as well in my opinion.

direct comparison? Sony Vaio's are *generally* insanely over priced. Gateway all the way. better bang for your buck and top notch customer support. *thumbs up*

I don't buy Sony. I don't like the way they do business.

It looks to me like you still need to narrow down what you're looking for in a laptop. Those are two very different machines. But between just those two... Option C -> hookers and beer. :D

I still use an old Gateway laptop that my family purchased in 1998, sure the battery is dead and the thing weighs more than a tank, but it works, and works well.

Go with the HP, Better quality and it has a intel core 2 duo mobile :D TRUST ME DONT BUY SONY VIAO, OVER PRICED PIECE OF CRAP!

I have a Gateway 7422 AMD based laptop for the past two years, rock solid and no problems. My brother-in-law has the same laptop and has had to return his 3 times so far...but with outstanding service. Just make sure you purchase the 3 year extended warranty....he received a new replacement after his third return...not too shabby.
