ok...so i just bought this computer yesterday, as my old one died. i noticed that there are 2 HDDs in it, but they show as 2 seperate drives in vista. is there a way to put these into raid w/o screwing up the system? would they need to be in raid before i install the OS?

also, if i can put them into raid, 1)how is it done, and 2) would using the restore disks work? or will the restore disk look for 2 drives.

any help/suggestions would be great. i tried googling the issue, but nothing came up that i could find.

thanks,
Maglio

To put them into RAID 0 (I assume you would want RAID 0), you would need to reformat the drives. In all honestly, it's most likely not worth it to put these drives into RAID. That's also assuming your motherboard has built-in RAID support. If it does not, then you'll need to buy a RAID controller as well. I don't know for sure whether or not the restore disk would work, though I would guess that it should be alright.

why wouldn't it be worth it? i thought raid was supposed to be a lot faster than single drives?

Yes, it will be faster, BUT you also run an increased risk of losing your data. It's also very likely that the performance gains you actually see from doing this will be negligible.

Also, there is a very good chance your motherboard does not support RAID, in which case you'll be spending more money to set up this RAID array.

I bought one Saturday. It is a great desktop and cheaper than I could build it for what it has on it. It DOES have RAID. It DOES have 2x320 gig hard drives. I have mine set up as RAID 0.

Just back up the drivers and software before you set up the RAID as it will erase all of your data.

You will love it...super fast and plays unreal 3 without a hitch!!
