Alright so I stepped into the local Best Buy after reviewing all the posts on the Samsung 215TW ready to buy it when right next to the Samsung, I see this very nice looking Gateway 21 inch widescreen monitor. It has more inputs that the Samsung, the specs look the same however I haven't heard anything from you guys! In the past all I've bought were Samsung monitors, but for 50 bucks more I can get a similar item with more inputs. What do you guys think? Could you tell me anything about the Gateway FPD2185W Monitor? Which would you rather buy between the two? Thanks

By the way, the main use of this monitor will be gaming.

Ok, seeing your noobie status, let me step in before you get flamed for not using the search button. Both LCDs have been covered extensively esp. the Gateway one.

Here's the quick summary, you can search for the rest.

I had the Gateway and returned it because i wanted to use it for my XBox 360. If you hook anything up via component the blacks are really dark. I didn't like the color gradient and also the PQ of this monitor. The black levels really change depending on what angle you look at the monitor from. I just wasn't happy with the S-Pva technology

The Samsung monitor is using the same LCD screen as the Gateway and basically the same monitor except for some minor differences. They are both HDCP compliant.

However, stated somewhere in a thread is that the Samsung does not do 1080i over component, only 480p while the Gateway does 1080i over component.

Gateway= 1 year warranty while samsung = 3 year warranty.

IMO, I wouldn't get either of these monitors. PQ, black levels and color gradient were just terrible for me.

Hope this helps.

The Gateway FPD2185W panel is made by Samsung......I love mine....component IS a bit dark though, but I can live with it....I use it to watch TV from my HD Cable box.....the PC is hooked up via DVI....
