So I have went out and purchased a FPD2185. First thing I am noticing is that it does not seem to be as sharp as my Dell 1704fpt LCD. When side by side, there is a noticeable difference in the fonts :(. Is there any way to fix this or should I just take it back?

Edit:

I notice that the Dot Pitch or Pixel Pitch? on the Gateway is 0.27 and 0.264 on the Dell. Would this be the reason for the noticed blurriness?

I just got the Gateway also a few days ago and I noticed the same thing. It is almost like there is too muck contrast of the fonts and it makes them kinda fuzzy(best way I can describe it anyway). I found tthis little program http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypePowerToy.mspx
and ran it and it made a huge difference for me. It lets you adjust the amount of contrast for your Cleartype fonts. Give it a try. Hope it helps.

Well I tried that program...doesn't seem to do what I need it to do. On my screen my pixels seem to bleed over to the surrounding pixels creating a blur effect. This is most noticeable with Black font on White backgrounds.

i have tried turning down the brightness and I still get the same effect.

Windows is smoothing your fonts. I have the same monitor, had the same problem. Its razor-sharp now. Go to Display Properties > Appearance > Effects and uncheck the box that says "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts".

I have tried that method also! :(

Could it be the difference in Dot Pitch from my 1704 that is .264 vs the gateways .27 which is causing this?

I am going to exchange it today and see how that goes. It also has a whining noise that is noticeable.

There is a sharpness adjustment on the OSD, try that.

I would also take it back, if I were you. I have a CRT with a .20 horizontal dot pitch, and the text on this screen is just as sharp. Also, the 2185 has had a few revisions. Early versions have been reported to make a humming noise if the brightness is lower than 80. I have my brightness at 20 with no such noise.

I took the monitor back today. I am now contimplating on 20.1" models. I need something that is decent for all around use...i never watch movies on my computer so I just need something for good Photo Editing and Gaming...which leads me to the ViewSonic VX2025WM.
