Is there any legitimate reason to have a gateway address away from the 'standard' x.x.x.1? Pros/Cons to putting it in the middle or upper end of the range?
 
I put it on .254 most of the time. No reason just personal preference.

I prefer .1 myself.

But yea, I have seen gateways all over the place in the /24 no real pros or cons to where you put it, just so long as it makes sense to you.
 
Just pick one and stick to it. I have a customer whose VLANs vary wildly between .1 and .254. Extremely annoying.
