Gantle Typhoons and orientation

Working on a new build, basically a full-tower remake of my previous PC-A16 build. Bottom-mounted radiator with four Gentle Typhoon AP-14s pulling up. Mounted the fans to the radiator, everything was fine. Mounted the radiator into the case, and now, several days later, I powered up the fans to hear how they do in the case.

All four fans are making "chuffing" sounds of the blades gently scraping against something. I can't find anything they'd be hitting. Do GTs simply not work right in the blades-hanging-down, air-blowing-up orientation? Maybe after those several days passed the bearings settled, and got out of whack or something?

I have 6x GT's running in the same orientation, blowing the same way on my rad, and i dont hear the noise your talking about .....been running em like that for a good few weeks

I have 3 AP-15s mounted horizontally and blowing upward. No unusual noises to report after 2 months.

Did you use some kind of sound dampeners on the fans? Those get smashed sometimes if you tighten down too much, causing them to protrude it the fans path. If you do, take them off and re-attach the fans, see if that helps.

I have my Rad top mounted on a Corsair 800d, with the GT's pushing and have no issues.

Gentle typhoons use ball bearings, they do not care what orientation they are operated in.

I do have a Thermochill gasket between the fans and the radiator, and lifting a fan off of it does stop the noise. Hrmph. It looks like the gasket's foam on the "inside" of the fan's edges decompressed just enough to contact the blades. This must be why the noise wasn't there from the start—it took a while for the foam to expand back out. The fans are mounted pretty loosely, too; I didn't think there'd be enough compression on the gasket for this to happen.

I like the gasket for its air-sealing and vibration-isolating and slight shroud effect, but oh well. I guess I'll take the gasket back out. Maybe I will get those Phobya 7mm rubber shrouds instead. The trick will be finding mounting screws of the right length... if only the GTs were open corner...
