lets say at the end of the year I have best game of the year award, so and so won. Do I email the company letting the company know and email the award (aa in a picture they can put in there advertizements) to them? or is it something different?
 
If you have to ask, then the game companies probably don't care about your award. ;) In other words, if the award is from some random guy with a website that nobody has ever heard of, then why would they want to use the award in advertisements? I could name a game best game of the year, but that doesn't mean much considering I'm not really an authority on games.

But anyway, if you gave them an award then yes, it would probably be a good idea to contact them to let them know they've won.

man, the way you made it sound is harsh. But, yet very true. Thanks for the advice, also can you answer this, How are game websites able to get a preview of the game?
 
You have to have a pretty popular website for developers to send you a copy of a game before it gets released.
 
Start by buying and playing games just like everyone else. Review it fairly and post it to your site/forum. Build up your site in this manner until it fairly large and respectable. The gaming companies will then respect your opinions.
