Anybody else have separate systems for gaming and productivity primarily because of the monitors?
I've got a PLP setup with a center Dell U3014 (2560x1600) and two HP ZR24W (1920x1200) side monitors. To me, this is ideal for general usage but not for gaming. I've got a separate system with an Asus Rog Swift PG278Q as my gaming monitor.
These are older systems: I5-2500K for gaming, I7-2600K for production. I was considering upgrading to AMD's Ryzen processor and merging to one system but I don't see it working out. I've become too reliant on the availability of a separate system to check strategies, play videos, etc while playing full-screen gaming.
The video card on the gaming system is an Nvidia GTX 680 and the i5-2500K is overclocked at 4.5Ghz. I'm thinking that an upgrade is probably not necessary at this time for gaming and that the logical upgrade path would be to Nvidia Volta in 2018 if still using a G-sync monitor.
On the main system, I could see maybe removing the 1920x1200 side monitors in favor of a 32" 2560x1440 freesync monitor like the HP Omen for a L-L rather than a P-L-P setup but am not sure if that setup is an upgrade or not. If I didn't have the 30" 2560x1600 monitor already, I'd probably buy 2 32" 2560x1440 monitors. I think the 32" 2560x1440 is an equivalent size to the 30" 2560x1600 with the advantage of being freesync capable. The 27" 2560x1440 format just seems too small for my aging eyes.
