Gaming VPN?

Hiya, long story short I'm a gamer and there's a new MMO coming soon called "Tera-online" http://tera.enmasse.com/

I play currently with someone who lives in Japan and they want to try Tera as well. The problem and point of this post is Tera will have IP restrictions.

We're looking into VPN services and having a rough time determining what the best option would be... we're looking for a fast/reliable/west coast US based VPN, also a service that offers a private IP address that never changes and is not shared with anyone

If playing an MMO is all you want to do, you can VPN off of a DD-WRT router and that should do the trick. It's easy to set up and the bandwidth shouldn't be a problem.

I assume this relates to a physical router you have in your own home? As stated this MMO will have IP restrictions, not allowing my friend to play from Japan. That's why we're looking into purchasing a private VPN service with a never changing IP address.

You live in the US correct? Setup the VPN on a cheap router that does DD-WRT (can get one for like 20-30 bucks) and he will have your IP address through the VPN, allowing him to play

If you really want to pay for something, I've had good experience with perfect privacy
(http://perfect-privacy.com/). It's like $60 for 3 months or something and has servers all over the world (but not in japan unfortunately. Closest is China & Taiwan I think).

I use the VPN service from giganews/ goldenfrog - seems to work fine. Hidemyass is one I have heard of with good coverage. Get a trial with them and test it out.
