well my rig is in my sig. i get around 70fps in css on max settigns 6x 16x aa and 1280x1024 veryvery good, happy. then lets go to bf2.......................good.lagg.lagg, avg of 30 fps on max settings. now on my xp 3200 i used toi get over 40 fps in bf2 on 4xaa, so i turn my aa down to 4x again, same thing, i put res to 800x600 settings on low, no aa, 30FPS!!!:( any otehr game runs very smooth but no bf2, why?

i dunno, i get over 60fps with a 6600gt and a pentium 4 3ghz! (with a gig going to upgrade to 2gigs)

all medium settings except low dynamic lighting and low shadows @ 1280x1024

2xAA also

You wish it uses 600MB of RAM, it can easily use 1.2GB if you put on high textures. If you "only" (wow, never though I'd be saying that :p) have a GB, use medium textures. They don't look much different but game play will be much smoother with higher FPS. I run everything on max/high except for that, I get 50-100FPS.

I noticed that my fps was sitting around 30 at 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960(though the last two were very stuttery anyways even though it showed a 30 framerate). I matched the desktop res/refresh w/ the in game res/refresh and wala-- 45-70 fps at 1024. Haven't tried 1280 yet.

Yeah, I probably should have disclosed that I have only 1gb and run it on Medium, No VSync, 2x AA/AF

fedex better deliver my second gb of corsair xms today, ju guys think that will fix it>

3.4 prescott
2gb hyperx
x850xtpe agp

all settings high + 4xAA @1280x1024 -- +60fps sustained

yes, 2GB of ram is the minimum to run the sliders on high. Does not matter how 733T your video card is - you gotta have system RAM to prevent hard drive swapage.

The game is a hog, but techinical issues asides, it's still a damn good game.

When you are in game, meaning on a 64 player map actually playing, run over to a dark corner and do a ctnl alt del. Task Mangler will tell you the truth. 1GB for high settings does not cut the mustard.

Easier than tabbing out is to just check your peak under memory usage in control panel after you are finished. I run everything on high except d. lighting, 4xaa, 4xaf. Fraps gives me an average of 55FPS. Memory maxed at 1.45GB. That's with an a64 3200, 1 gig, and an X800XT PE.

I had the same problem, here are the setting I use that helped. The noticable difference between medium and high is pretty small. I also disabled the startup movies and backgroud movies. Before I start BF2, I make sure nothing I dont need is running the background, like antivirus software, torrents, trillian, etc.

I used this guide to tweak bf2.
http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html

All of my stuttering problems are GONE COMPLETELY.

8xS AA and 8xAF with MS Transparency AA at 1152x864 with everything on high I get 30+ FPS with no stuttering almost all the time... and I haven't finished my overclocking yet ;)

P4 630 OC'ed to 3.6GHz, 2GB DDR2-533 (running at 480 right now), GeForce 7800GTX 480/1300

The fact that there's a game out now that can bring the 7800 down to 30FPS without going super-hi-res is pretty scary.

The game is weird like that though... I had 512mb of ram and my 9800 pro 128mb and ran fine would jump a tiny bit during airstrikes but other than that ran fine... I now put in an old pc2300 stick w/ my xms 3200 stick and it runs such that I run everything on medium and it doesn't stick at all.. I keep hearing of people lagging w/ higher vid cards but I just don't think they have the ram to do it... or fast as shit hd's :D

thanks for the great tweaking guide suggestion. i finally figured out how to set the resolution to show up in-game. i always was using the shortcut to force the resolution.

Guys i installed 2 Gigs of OCZ 3200 they run at 2/3/2/5 and upto 233FSB no problems, the difference from 1 GIG to 2 Gigs is more then Noticable, i thought the hitching or jerkeiness was due to my X800XT-PE but nope it was the ram. Now i love the game hasnt dropped to windows or crashed once.

now we have more proof that bf2 is a ram eater. i guess thats good news for some who were planning on dropping 600$ on a new video card  ! i was thinking of getting more ram for my dell inspiron 9100 notebook but i decided to just hold out until august-september to get the r520 (regardless of its specs i am set out to get one just because i want this laptop to last at least a year). on a side note, anyone interested in buying a 10 month old dell inspiron 9100? lol j/k

Yep.

IT"S THE RAM< PEEPS>.

Broadcast it far and wide. I'm convinced this is about 70% of the games problems after the 1.02 patch. 1GB with a bitchin video card does not cut it for this game.

well maybe 1gb with a 7800gtx is okay. but if you're spending 600$ for a video card you may as well spend an extra 100-200$ for 2gb

"Gentlemen! Stop blaming the developer for the hitching, shoddy coding is not the cause! You just need to go out and buy enough RAM to load your entire operating system into virtual memory! And you thought the game was coded poorly. Pah, poppycock!"

Nah, you need to spend at least another $500 in order to play this $50 game.

Yeah, 1GB is fine with a 7800GTX. I'll check it out with 2GB in a week or so.

For BF2 you need lots of Ram and very important, get the latest drivers. It makes a big difference.

I F***ING WISH MAN! FIRST 30 SECONDS OF ANY MAP ON BF2 IS PURE DISTILLED LAG LAG LAG LAG. And this is with an FX-55, 7800GTX, and 1GB of RAM (ddr400 - 2-2-2-7). Bastard EA, I just spent like 1k to get the new video card, mobo, and big ass heatsink, THINKING I could max BF2 out, but now I need more RAM. Well my plastic is getting a little thin, I can't spend like $1500 for one fucking game, they'll just have to learn how to optimize their engine and maps better because I didn't even need 512mb to max out HL2 or Farcry. Gotta love it.

hey bro, lol, new patch sucks, it has tons of prob, uninstall it it will vbe much better, but still my ram wont work

hmm this makes me wonder..do u guys think that if EA actually made and optimized the game right, we wouldnt be running around begging for money to upgrade our comps?

well with games like unreal tournament 2007 coming in the next year i wouldnt put the blame entirely on bf2...and to think, i just spent 1500$ to get ready for hl2 and now my computer is outdated

get 2 GB of ram. Problems solved, esp with high end video cards.

when you crank up the sliders, the game eats more system ram. textures is the biggest offender. turn it down.

The game isn't that graphically intensive, your video card doesn't matter much. The only problem is that you cannot run the game on high textures without more than 1GB of RAM. And remember that it's the EA/Dice team that did a shit job coding the game, hence it needs so much RAM. I run the game at 1600x1200 with 2xAA/8xAF no hitches, RAM is the issue.
