Gaming on LCD?

CS and every other game in the world looks awsome on the LCD. You made the right choice.

CSS rocks on my apple hd adc screen. CSS runs at 1920x1200 is so nice.

Every friend of mine that plays CS says that LCD's are BADDDDD for CS and gaming in general. Are they wrong? Cause one of them plays CS competetively and he swears against playing on an LCD. I'm confused.

You'd have to do a little research on LCDs to see why people here are telling you different and your friends are telling you otherwise. Some LCDs have a very slow response time, which means that it can't refresh the display fast enough for fast motion, hus alot of smearing and ghosting occurs, however, alot of todays LCDs are alot better, at least on the expensive side. Your LCD is suited for games, wheres most on the market are too slow for gaming. You should be pleased.

Yeah, though a lot of LCD's are now getting cheaper. You can get one that will "do the job" for around 250 bucks, if you look in the right places.

The 2405 will blur with movement, so on quick turns and straifes you'll notice that scene blurs up, that's the issue you'll find. It doens't bother some and others absolutely hate it. But I'll guess you'll find out soon whether it's a problem for you.

I don't perceive any blur at all and still can get my headshots :D Owned 25ms to 8ms LCDs, all looked pretty much alike to me (in terms of ghosting)

All the games i've ever played on my Cinema Display have been crisp and vibrant. Definately looks as good as my old 21in CRT

I've seen the type your friend is. They have 21" or 22" CRTs, play at maybe 800x600 res with all the details turned to low. I've seen them play at 640x480 on a 22" crt, head shots left and right.

Me, I go for the eye candy... I haven't noticed me being any better or worse since I got my LCD, not that I was any good to start with :D

Oh, and contrary to popular belief, there ARE other games out there besides CS... really!

Peace,
Tim

Yeah exactly right they play on 22" viewsonics. I just got my 2405 today and i'll find out soon enough I guess. :)

EDIT: Oh yeah forgot to mention NO DEAD PIXELS WOOHOO!!!!

Just as a warning, if you're a super ownage pwning 1337 CS player that needs at least 450FPS... you might notice a tiny bit of blurrying and lack of fluidity when you're whipping your head around 360 degrees in CS on a 2405FPW.

LOL, heh heh, pretty funny...but true nonetheless... :(

I keep hearing this term 'plays competitively.' Are there people that play with the intent of losing?

Haha, I'm pretty bad at CS:S now-a-days, but a few years ago I kicked ass at 1.4 and 1.5. Now, I just pwn some people in CoD:UO. Hehe, oh well. Still includes guns, less hackers and morons.

I guess it's those who play for money as opposed to those who play just for fun ;)

LOL!!! I mean they enter tournaments and get paid by sponsors for playing CS
:p

IMHO with the 2001FP. Unless you just chill as a sniper and don't move much. Then it's a beaut.

I have to say based on my Samsung 913N that a CRT is much better for gaming. I find that there is a lot jerking about compared to a crt.

I bought a Samsung 930b specifically for CS:S. I'm a semi serious player and I have no trouble with my new monitor at all. It's way way better than the crt i had before.

I dunno what's the dealio, I own everyone with LCDs... I even tried CRT, didn't make one single bit of differnce :D

Was thinking of getting viewsonics brand spankin new 19 inch.. lcd..which comes out next month with 4ms response time. its viewsonics killer lcd or i saw an NEC monitor at frys yesterday and it was clear as day.. will try and get model # but not sure. the only thing was it seemed cheap in a way. it had a protective cover that actually made the screen look clearer..
i dont really want a dell .. at least for gaming... ill get a large one for other stuff... 20 - 21 in .. later on.. but for now i need a gaming monitor .. anyone recommend a 19 "???

Don't rule out any brands as non-gamer brands. Just about every brand has good LCD's and bad ones. Dells last 2 screens have been quite good, especially for the price.

Yes.... -|SFP|- ... anytime we are on the [H] servers, it's all about seeing how much fun we can have losing.. :)

SFP = SpokLAN Flashlight Patrol

Peace,
Tim

I had a few LCD's and keep finding myself selling them and going back to my old 17" beige Gateway CRT. No the colours aren't nearly as vibrant, but the slightest bit of ghosting is terrible to me. I play to win and do well and this CRT is great. I'm uping to a 19" Silver CRT soon for 150$ off the egg. No LCD's for me until I test one out and get ZERO ghosting.

I am actually going to invest in a dell lcd... but not now. I wanted the 2405 but i want a gaming lcd and from what i heard ghosting on them was still there.
I was just mentioning that viewsonics' lcd will have 4 ms response time. I wanted to know who might buy one. They are priced at 499 from viewsonics site. and dont know about online retailers.
