gaming on 2 monitors?

it can be done, but 2 monitors sucks due to the bar in the meddle of the screen,

I can attest to that
Not only does it suck because of the two bars, it also LAGGGED with the computer in my SIG :(

Some games support it nicely, but the card is not designed to output 3d accelerated images to both displays, thus the slowdown.

I tried Civilization4 with a custom resolution that spanned both monitors. It ran at a tolerable speed, but the break is in the middle, made the game really unplayable, even if it was kinda cool.

The big advantage of having 2 monitors for gaming is being able to have a website or notepad window open on the second monitor, and being able to have hints/walkthrus etc up on a screen while you're playing a game.

You have to play games in a window to be able to access the page, but often you can alt-tab out of the game to change the contents or scroll up or down.

MMORPGs typically have an option to run in a window, so it's easy to switch over to a website for maps/quest walkthrus/forums etc.

yeah, i never tried it and ive been out of the loop for a while so i diddnt know if you could or not. i hooked another old monitor up and am running 2048x768 in guild wars, and its really cool

the only thing is, as others have said, is the space between the screens, it really sucks for this game since i like to play it 3rd person so it splits my character in half, but its still kinda cool in first person.

oh well, it was worth the try.

I play Halo online at its max of 1600x600 for dual screen (sucks it won't go higher). I got used the the little bar pretty quick. I also go dual screen in a few racing games like GTR or CRC. The extra peripheral vision gets sorta addicting- hard to switch to a single monitor game.

Show me a way to run FPS games on 3 monitors so my middle isnt split, and i have tons of periferal vision, and i will buy 2 more 21 inch sony's and any game that supports it. Matrox cards don't count since they get 2fps.

that would be bad ass, i would like to know this too.

The problem with that, is that the game would be required to process three screens of information and output to your three monitors on at least 2 different cards. How many people will have 3 monitors hooked up?

Not enough incentive to code the game to support it. Same reason most games dont take advantage of multi processor pcs, just too small a market.

(Sure some flight sims will work with multi monitor bcause you can pull apart the display into separate windows, but most games are not like that.)
