Guys,

I'm now becoming addicted to CS and TFC online. I want to have all the advantages that everyone else out there has. I know they make a lot of different gaming mice and pads.

I have a HP optical mouse that came with a bundle (got it off eBay for $6.50 shipped). Don't know the DPI. But it works a lot better than my regular ball mouse even on the neoprene pad with the wrist mound.

But I am looking at a MX518 and a Ratpadz GS. Is this a good thing to upgrade to? Or should I just get the pad to improve my optical mouse tracking?

Thanks.
Cody

I personally use the Logitech MX518 and FuncPad Surface 1030, things couldn't be smoother or more precise. :)

It depends what type of performance and price you are looking at? For performance most people would suggest the G7 (laser) or the new offering by Razor gaming mouses (can't remember the name). I would definitely look at Func for mousepad offerings.

Skip the RatPad as it will only last a few months before it wears out. Look at the SUPERMAT because it's huge, smooth, and super cheap. You can get them at Frys if you have one around for 5.99 plus tax.

Been using a Ratpadz GS for 2+ years now and other than the logo wearing off(no biggie IMO) it works just as good as the day I got it. Am using a MX510 and going from a MS 3.0 to it improved my game quite a bit. But I will say when you get the MX518 you might not do to well at first with it due to you being use to to that mouse and the MX518 being more precise. But hang in there for at least a week and you will see the difference.

When I first got the MX510 I wanted to sell it the first day because I was doing poor in games but I decided to hold on to it for a while and I got use to it.

i for one prefer my mx310/ finc1030 surface over anything smooth as a baby's bottem. Of course i got the mouse wax on my pad so that helps out a lot

Just realize that you want a mouse that doesn't skip or jitter, has nice ergonomics and the right amount of buttons because whether is lazer/optical. has 800/1600 dpi, or is logitech/razer/ms doesn't mean jack in game.

I beg to differ... A more accurate mouse means you have a better chance at hitting what you're trying to aim for.

Its all mental... a mouse doesn't make you more accurate, practicing accuracy does. All I'm saying is worry more about how it fits your hand and grip style, how heavy it is, how many buttons you want etc...

Can't go wrong with anything from Logitech in the past few years...

RIP mx300.... :(

So by that logic, we would all be fine with ball mice...

A better mousing setup only helps you if you by the amount you're being held back by your current mousing setup.

A crappy player just moves the mouse at at the enemy's general direction and just shoots. A better player is aiming specifically at a particular spot on the enemy, a good player can make tiny adjustments so that they won't just shoot and hope to hit, but only shoot when they're confident that it WILL hit.

If you're trying to aim at those tiny targets and your mouse jumps 2 millimeters instead of the 1 millimeter you were hoping for to get that headshot, then a better mouse may be key for you. But if you're not even trying to compensate for those tiny discrepancies and just shooting, hoping for a kill, a mouse is only going to make you think you're better.

I use an MX510 and a func 1030 mba, at first with the 510 it was like wth, I am teh suck, but then keep using it and it is awesome, i really like it.

id say a gaming mouse is worth it
but paying the same price for a mousing surface is crazy

that being said i use a 518 and mouse over my desk (which is quite slick)

Indeed, after changing mice there was a learning curve for me too, since I'd been using my old mouse for quite some time. Had to spend some time adjusting the sensitivity till the mouse responded the way I wanted it to, and never quite got it to be the same. But eventually over time I became accustomed to it and I enjoy the improvement in ergonomics.

On my desktop I have a Logitech 510 and a Ratpadz GS and love the combo. I liked the Ratpadz so much that I picked one up so that I'd have a really good mousepad for my lappy. A good mousepad is totally worth the money IMHO.

Who says mice and mouse pads don't make a difference. My grandma upgraded her mouse to a razor copperhead 2000dpi and icemat and now she's owning all in Counter Strike.

I would say sine I upgraded from my Intellimouse to my G5 I have gotten slightly more accurate. The G5 feels better with the added weight and ergonomics as well.

A good mouse is worth the money I went from a crappy memorex to a MX500 and the difference was like night and day.

Thanks for the input. Alot of what I needed came tonight. I got some hands on time... which I hope to get more of. That rises above and beyond all that I can be offered through personal opinions. Though I appreciate your posts. I like to know what kind of experience you've had with the combo I was looking at.

Admin, sorry to clog up your forum. I will definately take a serious look at your reviews.

Thanks.

I'm using an IceMat and a MX1000, I've seen a big increase in accuracy since switching over.

Don't use an icemat if you have a laser mouse, it only works with the older style optical mice.

im personally not sold yet on a mousepad totally changing your kd ratio, but changing mice MAY make a difference depending on your skill level. if youre new at a game, there are other obstacles to you pwning everyone than your mouse...eg: learning the strategy, controls, learning to use audio cues, etc. as you progress and get better, your mouse can play a huge difference. ever since switching from an original MS optical wheel mouse to my mx518, i can honestly say that my hands get fatigued less often and my accuracy has increased. not sure about mousepads though...

i want a func1030mba, but i really cant justify the extra 25 dollar premium over the regular func1030 surface, plus i already have one, unless i can sell it for my friend for 25 bucks. Wait up that fucker did want a mouse pad i could probably sell it to him and get that mba...yes!!!!!! insert geek >.>

The mx518 is pure smooth and accurate bliss. As far as pads go? I dunno, I figure they help but aren't as important as a good mouse.

This is my high performance gaming control setup, hold two keys on the keyboard down and it beeps at you while jamming. 6 year oldLogitech m-bd58 wheel mouse jitters on the low-resistance 24lb white paper with writing, on side two of it now. That setup used to kick ass, now I am constantly slower on the draw, (ex 40-60 sensitivity controllable in cs). May post comparison to razor/func surface after xmas if anyone feels like donating. This original setup broke my bank at a full $20-30 new years ago, and i still haven't recovered.

My Razer Diamondback makes me slightly more accurate. I love it. The surface that came with it is pretty happening as well. Worth it.

I was using an mx510, and it worked great, but it eventually died on me, due to being dropped quite a bit. I wasn't sure what to get, and I was without a car at the time, so the closest place was Office Depot. Picked up a mx1000, and a cheapy mousepad(non-cloth), it took me about 3-4 hours of gaming before i got used to it, and started dropping my sensitivity. I was leary about having a cordless, being worried about the lag, but I love it, and don't plan on looking back, that is until the next time logitech screws me out of my money. :/

get a logitech MX518 and a func 1030, takes time to get used to but you're never let down

Logitech G7 and an off the shelf Supermat here. I've got a G5 as well, but I prefer the wireless G7.
