I'm considering buying a wireless USB microphone to pair with quality headphones for gaming. I came across a product called revolabs xtag. I want to make sure this will work as advertised. Does anyone have knowledge of this product? What is the wireless range?

Also. What are good closed headphones in the 400-700$ range? They will be used for music and gaming with headphone amp and external DAC. Thanks
 
I'm not a fan of it. We have some of them at work, and their sound quality is only ok but more problematically they are extremely sensitive to tactile noise. You move, they make a bunch of noise. Unfortunately, I don't really have any good suggestions for something to pair with headphones, at least something that isn't expensive.

In terms of headphones, how sealed do they need to be? Just closed back so they don't bother people in the room with you, so nice and isolated to keep external noise out?
 
Yes. Mainly to not bother others in the room. Would a desktop mic be ok? Like maybe a snowball or whatever they are called.? Or similar? So the xtag picks up motion and local noise? Would I regret buying one?
 
I've heard of others using a Snowball without issue, haven't tried it myself... That's quite the budget there for headphones. Maybe one of Denon's older discontinued models like the D5000? Logitech Ultimate Ears 9000 has been getting good reviews too... Not sure I'd splurge that much on closed cans myself but if you'll never really have the chance to get much use out of open ones then I guess ya might as well.
 
I use a Snowball as my primary microphone. They work really well as gaming mics, and I have had no issues whatsoever.

The Snowball will pick up everything in the room in omni mode, but if it is set to one of its cardioid patterns, it is pretty directional and should not have issues so long as no one is seated directly behind or next to you. In fact, I am able to play music through my speakers with the mic sitting a couple of feet in front of the speakers without the music transmitting through the mic.

this... i have a 500 watt system. am i out of luck?
 
After some research I have found a possible solution. Has anyone used or heard the Sony Bluetooth microphone ECM AW3? It looks like i could plug receiver into mic port on pc and use the wireless mic to communicate on the pc. I think it's around 150$ which is expensive but might have less noise and have further range than the xtag. Again, I plan on using quality headphones and this wireless mic to effectively game and communicate with Skype....etc.
 
I like my Snowball. I don't think there's much else in the price range, and I've been disappointed with solutions that use analog pickups.
