Gaming Mice

IYes I tried the G9 but that thing isnt much bigger than the G5.

Thx

Strange that you tried the G9. I find it considerably smaller than the G5/MX518. I wouldn't have even touched it if I were a palmer looking for a large mouse.

I would have gotten this mouse if there were a wireless version. I just don't do wired mice anymore.

Yeah... I wouldn't mind trying out a wireless version either. The cord on my G9 and G5 are just ridiculously stiff. I have it in a very loose, semi-coil configuration that minimizes cord drag but it's still noticeable to a person like myself who used wireless mice for years.

Ironically I love the Trackman FX, but hate wireless trackballs (it's stationary, I don't need a stupid wireless trackball, it's just an extra hassle with the batteries for absolutely no benefit to me). I really wish they'd update that line. It's been sitting at the same model since like... 2001.

So yeah, put my G9 cord on the Trackman FX (and update the tracking engine while you're at it) and put the wireless part on the G9, thanks Logitech.

No other mouse will ever feel as good as the Mx518 to me. The + and - buttons are in the perfect spots for me to use them as extra function buttons in games. The thumb buttons are something I can't do without. The mouse fits my hand like a glove and I love it. I wish they had not moved the locations of those buttons on the G5 and G7.

I also have a Sidewinder x8 and I like it because it's wireless and very responsive, but it just doesn't have the same feeling as the Mx518.

I'd give anything for a wireless Mx518 with the responsiveness of the Sidewinder x8. :(

The G7 is very similar to the Mx518 in ergonimics and probably just a tab nicer. I've played around with an Mx518 in stores and I think that the G7 feels nicer. But the X8 thumb buttons are fantastic.

IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 is my favorite. It's so light weight, not wireless (screw that for gaming), very precise, 5 buttons + scroll wheel. I actually wore the finish off my old one which lasted 4+ years. I bought 2 more online for dirt cheap so I have another 8+ years without worry. I love this mouse and will use it as long as it exists and can be bought.

Microsoft Sidewinder is the new Intellimouse 3.0 for me. I suppose Microsoft done it again. Though Deathadder, Ikari Laser is still decent but they just doesn´t have the flawless button configuration of the Sidewinder.

I have the G5.... Works great for my gaming. :) And I didn't bother reading your post before posting.... lol. Never mind me then.

Yes! I've tried G9, G5, razer's but nothing compares to the MX518. I heard the Ikari are good but haven't tried those yet.

I've used every single one of Logitech's Gaming mice, minus their ambidextrous one. I still prefer the G9 the most. MX518 was good as well and so was the G5, but the G9 for me feels the most comfortable as well as being the most functional (damn you G5 only having 1 side button)

G9 is a good mouse. The only problem is the lift distance with cloth pads (Qck). For someone who never lifts the mouse off the pad should be no problem. I just don't like the crosshair shaking when I'm bringing the mouse back onto the pad. This doesn't happen on my hard pad but Qck pad is the most comfortable i've used so far.

I would love a mouse that can handle low sensitivity plus fast speeds and not screw up. Microsoft laser mouse 6000 can't handle it and neither can intellimouse 3.0. Would really like to hear from someone who really knows what they're talking about on this.

If you think intellimouse 3.0 is fine for you, you're not the person I'm talking to. Anyone know if the cheap ocz one is any good with this particular issue?

no real use for anything better than a MX518 unless you can find something with more buttons.

Razor is overpriced garbage that is as light as paper and breaks as easily as paper tears.

Used/tried many, in order:
Mx510, Intellimouse, Habu, G5, Sidewinder, GM-M6880

I have to say, i prefer the GM-M6880 most. Yes, I'm surprised too. Not only that Gigabyte makes mouses, but it makes my favourite one lol. mx510 was good, but getting old, habu was just zzz. Ms mice (including habu) isn't that comfortable to me; however, the GM-M6880 isn't big at all. it's about the same size as g5/mx510, only slightly bigger, so might now suit you.

Take a look at Microsoft's Sidewinder X8. It replaced my Logitech G7 (which is the same size as the G5) and the Sidewinder X8 is bigger than the G7 and G9 (don't have a G9 but have played with one in stores) so that should be what you're looking for. Others say the X8 is a bit too big. I've got a bit bigger than average hands (long fingers) and the X8 is very comfortable to me, equal to the G7 IMHO. The only issue with the X8 that I've experienced personally is that it doesn't work well on cloth mouse pads (it is a known issue) which isn't that big of a deal to me.

If you have any questions about the X8 let me know and good mouse hunting!

Thanks for the mini-review. I've been looking to replace my Logitech and looks like I may have finally found my mouse. I like the wireless/wired capability too.

I've always liked the click response of microsoft mice over others but never really considered them for a gaming mouse.

I've owned several Razer mice and just don't like the click response and they seem to have a short lifespan (based on my experience with them...I've owned 3-4 of them).

Are you experiencing skipping or negative accel ? In any case, try overclocking your polling rate to 250hz, according to ESReality.com graphs it makes the perfect control speed ( highest you can get without negative accel ) from 1m/s to 1.5m/s

If your 3.0 is skipping then something must be wrong with your mousepad, My zowie 1.1 and IME 3.0 handle low sensitivity just fine with minimum negative accel as long as i don't push it too far ( like lower sens than 40cm/360 )

I have gamed with the MX Revolution for 2+years now. Everything from WoW to L4D. Not one problem in that time. Its suits me just fine having big hands, its heavy for some, but great for me. After having the Revolution and an MX1000, I can't go back to a WIRED mouse. Ever. I have never noticed any lag, specially with the USB Hub sitting on my desk. Been looking for a new mouse too as this one is pretty worn out, but I am not seeing anything that "feels" better than this MX Revolution, IMO.

If you have big hands, go to the Microsoft Sidewinder X8. Ive tried tons of mice, the G5, Razer Lachesis and Deathadder (Deathadder was almost a fit), and I finally got to the X8. It has a large groove for your ring finger to rest on (the largest issue I had with the G5 which caused my hand to cramp massively). Its not that flashy but its very precise, comfortable, and an overall gem.

I have large hands as well and I was looking forward to the X8. Prior I was using a Copperhead.
I was disappointed by the X8. Here is what I wrote on Newegg:

Pros: Nice size for larger hands. Great that it can be used while it is charging, no interruption in whatever you were doing just because the battery ran out. Replaceable feet are a nice touch, however ..., read the cons.
Cons: The right mouse button started to give about an hour into me using it. At first it was just a little, I could depress the button perhaps half a millimeter before it would hit the contact, and then I could actually make a right mouse click. Two days into using it his became about a millimeter. Now I can put the mouse button down quite a ways before it hits the spot of resistance an then push down further to actually make a right click. This is extremely annoying as it's basically a 2-stage right mouseclick.

The feet don't glide well at all. Prior to buying this I was using a Razer Copperhead and it was gliding effortlessly and more importantly SILENTLY over my mouse pad. The X8 offers a lot of resistance even when using the white feet, and it is making substantial plastic-on-plastic noise.

The thumb buttons are not very responsive. Must press down quite hard, will often move mouse which is not good for games which require precise aim.
Other Thoughts: I used to use a Logitec MX1000 for a long time, and I was really happy with that mouse for my larger hands, but charging it was unreliable as the charging dock contacts would wear out and the mouse wouldn't make sufficient contact with the dock. The Copperhead was a stop-gap, really too small for me, but awesome performance and gliding. I really wanted the X8 to be an adequate replacement, instead it will have to be RMA'ed and then sold on "the auction site that may not be named on here".

I have since changed my mousepad from a plastic one to a cloth one, but still, the X8 just doesn't glide well in my opinion.

SteelSeries Ikari Optical commentary:

I have big hands, DeathAdder is about the right size but the Ikari feels a little more comfortable. Definitely only a right handed mouse, couldn't use it left anded. Ergonomically it's also very comfortable, takes a bit of getting used to initially because your fingers feel "off" but after a day or so you love it.

The side buttons are great, right where they should be for easy use with the thumb. The top buttons felt uber sensitive initially, I would right click accidentally on everything. Now that I am accustomed to it I really appreciate their lightweight clicking in games makes it easier. This mouse is extremely lightweight, much lighter in feel than the DeathAdder.

Scroll wheel is also very different. You can't "spin" it. It clicks between notches very distinctly which is amazing in games. Won't accidentally go too far. But it does make web browsing a little more painful. I just now use pg down pg up. Also I believe in windows you can change the scroll wheel sensitivity but I haven't bothered so it's really more on my end than a fault of the mouse.

DPI on the fly. You can add presets to the mouse and then in each profile have two DPI settings that are switched instantly via a button below the scroll wheel. Amazing feature. Fast for my shotguns and slow for the sniper rifles. Can't say enough good things about that feature.

The feet glide great, overall love this mouse.
