I'm looking for a gaming quality LCD for around $200 or less after rebate and shipping, but i would like to also see choices that may be a little higher. It needs to be 22-24 inch 1080x1920 or 1200x1920. The latter would be preferred but I hear the 1080's are better values, and more bang for the buck is what I aim for.

The price of this caught my eye on the front page of ZipZoomFly:
ASUS VH242H 23.6in

Do TV monitors typically cost more because of the included deinterlacing and upscaling features? I'll be getting a receiver but I'm not sure how much it would cost for one with upscaling and deinterlacing as I'll need a way to play my old consoles on the monitor. I could do that via a secondary tuner card.

The Asus is nice monitor price/performance,you can't find some really good monitors for that price.

What do you guys think of these:

ASUS VH242H 23.6" - $145.99 - Same monitor as posted originally but open box. Is open box worth it for a monitor?

ASUS VH236H 23" - $159.99 after rebate.

ASUS VH226H 22" - $154.99 after rebate.

ASUS VK246H Black 24" - $164.99 - Open box.

Acer X233Hbid Black 23" - $169.99

Acer X233Hbd Black 23" - $169.99

Are these sizes usually viewable size?

All depends on your budget and what you like. I settled for a cheaper but fast TN panel from Dell. It also had the connections I wanted. The only thing I don't like is the glossy screen and lack of stand adjustments.

I'm a big fan of just perusing the deal list on dealnews.com. It is how I find my 26" Soyo (not sure if it would be considered gaming) for about $350 two years ago.

Fatwallet.com works well for that too

I found TechBargains.com to be very useful. The one thing I'm concerned about is how I'm going to connect game consoles to the monitor with component cables. Some of them supposedly can use VGA. Is that the same signal as component? For component I'd need some converter such as a receiver or a TV tuner card wouldn't I?

What I was more concerned with was which is better between those monitors I listed. Particularly the original Asus I posted and the two Acer's.

They're all different sizes, the acer(s) are the same size as the VH236H.

Is the ASUS VK246H a higher end model then the ASUS VH242H? How's the experience with open box items from Newegg?

How does the ASUS VH236H Black 23" 2ms(GTG) compare with the ASUS VH242H Black 23.6" 5ms? The first one is supposed to have a faster response time.

I can get the:
Asus VH242H 23.6" for $165
or
Asus VH236H 23" for $145.6

Which is better performance and value wise?

I have a question about this, is the 23.6 inch really the same viewable size as the 24inch model? Or is the 24 inch model actually 24" viewable size?
