Sorry if anyone posted thi topic already. But I am looking for an lcd to get with DVI interface for gaming. I want as little ghosting as possible. I play counter-strike for cal so i would want little ghosting there. I'm looking at the 17" moniters. Any recomendations?
 
I Also Play for Cal. I am cal-M here. I Bought the Samsunbg 710T which is supposed to be better than the 172X and there was alot of ghosting and bluuring in CS, I couldent take it so I returned it. If you play competitivly I dont reccomend any LCD monitor. I did notice that I become worce while playing on the LCD,It was due to the Monitors Slower MS response time compared to a Crts NS response time. From one cal player to another I dont recommend this LCD.

If you need a LCD then I think the 710T or the 172X Monitors would be best with the minimal Ghosting and blurring
 
Yes the 172X and the 710T. Just because they are 12ms does not mean that they dont blur and ghost. They just do it less than 16ms or 25 ms monitors, but still not up to the level of a crt which has a response time in nanoseconds
 
Just got a 712x last night. Awesome monitor, very crisp, with great colors on still images. It also probably ghosts less than any other LCD monitor ever made (12 ms response time). However... It's still not a CRT. It DOES ghost, and I can notice it, but with some getting use to I can ignore it and be okay, but it will never be a CRT in terms of ghosting/motion blur.

If you're a die-hard gamer, there is just no replacing a good CRT, however, if you must have an LCD, the Samsung 12ms line is the way to go.

I agree with Mothergoat and RS3RS if ya need a lcd the 12ms ones are the way to go,i think they will become alot better in the future when they get to sub 8ms response times
 
The 710t is the way to go. It is a true 24-bit panel, unlike the dated 18-bit panel of the 172x. It also has a sharper picture (due to higher brightness and contrast). It is also cheaper and can pivot. The only true advantages of the 172x are the more stylish appearance and included wall-mount (the 710T's is extra).

The advantages of the 172x also include its portability,the 710T can get kinda heavy at about 15 or 16lbs
 
its just that i hate lugging around my crt to every lan party i go to. I'm also on my clans cal team and i would like to have an easy moniter that is light and easy to carry. My moniter i have now is huge, and has a lot of scratches in the glass due to transit. I will also be going off to college, so i want something light. I probably should wait a year or so for the response times to come down.
 
Samsung's 12ms panels are definitely not the fastest and are obviously not the only 12ms panels on the market (LG's 1730 series has a 12ms monitor, using their own panel, and BenQ has a 12ms AU Optronics panel, since they are AU Optronics' parent company).

If the 172X or 710T is the only new generation LCD you've seen or own, it wouldn't be so wise to say that Samsung's is the best.

I'd suggest looking into BenQ's 12ms LCDs.
 
The AU optronics are supposed to have alot less hosting and much sharper pictures They all are also certified for HDTV

I Bought the 710T and after about a week returned it becouse I was just unhappy with it. I guess I was just not ready for a LCD

Il tell you 1st hamd from somebody who used the 710T,It in no way performs to all of the hype that it is given on these forums. Everybody said to me that the ghosting and blurring I got in CS was becouse I only had a ATI 9600XT. CS is a 5 year old game and you are telling me with 100 fps My card still is not fast enogh. Even in Ut2k4 where I get 85 fps I still got Ghosting and blurring. So I didnt see it as being the video card at all. I just dont think LCDs are anywhere neer the level of CRT when it comes to gaming and even more Competitive Gaming. Now you will see everybody come and flame this post,just like they always do. I am more of a perfectionist, If I buy a monitor and it is not 100% up to my satisfaction they i wont keep it. I want everything to be perfect and just get really mad when things are not.

I might of had a defective monitor but doubt it greatly

The BenQ LCD does look nice..but damn they are charging enough for them aren't they? I couldn't find one on the web for under $650... Can't wait for prices to drop later this year with some luck

I have and the 710t wins, hands down. The picture was not nearly as sharp on the BenQ, but the LG was good.
 
I recommend the Dell 2001FP. I just picked one up this weekend and holy crap is it nice.
