My last system was a MSI from XoticPC over a year ago. It died, a terrible death and just really wasn't the build quality I was looking for. Granted my budget of 1000 w/shipping doesn't leave much room for luxury.

I am in the market for another laptop. Looking for whatever, 12''-17'' laptop under 1000 with shipping. I have no brand preferences and no qualms about ordering online.

I'm just looking for something that can play new rts and mmo games and decent settings with decent build quality. Again, 1000 or under shipped.

Thank you for the help!

SUMMARY : best gaming friendly laptop under 1000.

What was the specs on the old laptop and was the performance okay?

If you don't care about the quality of the display you choices would likely be the Lenovo Y40, Y410p or Y510p (the latter two likely being better for your needs due to the stronger CPUs) with a strict budget of under $1000. Or maybe if you find outgoing Nvidia 7xx series laptops on sale as well from other brands.

However keep in mind the new GTX 850m/860m series made quite a jump up in performance compared to the 750m/760m/765m.

On more of a speculative note, since you probably don't want to wait (and wait for design wins as well), AMD is rumored to be launching a new mobile oriented design called "Tonga" as well.

There's also the Clevo W370SS (Sager NP7378) that can be had with a 4710MQ, 860m, and 17" Matte screen for $1000, if that tickles your fancy. :)

Be aware though, that's without OS at that price so you would have to have your own Windows.

Not sure what the specs on the Sager were but it was definitely what I wanted. I've been looking at the Lenovos and thus far they seem to be my best bet.

There was also a 13'' from ibuypower.com I believe that had a great gpu ( forget the model and I am lazy ). Looking for that elsewhere and hoping to get it and under 1000.

Thanks again!

Theres a guy selling a GT60 in the FS/FT forum that will probably fit your needs. In a year you can shove a 780M in it and youre good to go.

My guess on the ibuypower would be it's based on the Clevo W230SS which would also be the Sager NP7738 if you wanted to cross compare. A lot of "boutique" builders use the Clevo platform as an OEM. It's a 13.3" 860m platform usually paired with a quad core i7 for around $1000. There's is an incredibly nice Sager for sale in the FS/FT at the moment for $1100 if you wanted to talk to him, it's a NP8255-s that's very well equipped with the 4700MQ and 780m. Perhaps you two can meet on a price, I am not however vouching for anyone it just caught my eye so be sure to do your own background checking ;)

Edit* I went to ibuypower and it is indeed the Clevo W230SS, so you can cross shop that with many other builders and Sager resellers :)
Edit2* I believe this GT60 is the one The Lurker is referencing, he's asking $750 if you want to check it out, again no vouches do your own homework :p
