Hi All,

So I have between $250-$300 to spend on a new monitor. I have been looking at Samsung mostly, but i wanted all of your opinions on what might be the best bang for the buck. I'm hoping to get a 24", but really I just want one that can do 1920x1200 and will be good for gaming.

Thanks in advance!

I'm in the same boat as you. I want to snag a 1920x1200 while they still exist.

24" is my ideal size but supposedly the poor viewing angles on TN panels make it so the colors at the edges look washed out or off. I suppose I could look at a 22" like my current one. I guess I just want to go bigger for the sake of it.

I'm looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824002359 at the moment but besides having a fugly bezel it seems nice and not too pricey.

im in the same situation, im considering the samsung xl2370. i'd really like to find a glossy one though.

also, please don't think you have you get a IPS panel for gaming, especially if your looking for bang for the buck. TN has an excellent response time and if you are able to adjust your monitor correctly veiwing angle should be a non-issue. that being said the xl2370 sucks for adjustability.

2ms grey to grey, which is marketing speak for around 5-7ms for a TN panel

Can you explain this?

My understanding was that GTG was actually slower than black-white-black.

Wikipidia also says that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Response_time_(technology) whether that is a trustworthy link I do not know

So if they say 2ms gtg I would assume the black-white-black time is just as good, or better

Or are you just saying that when a manufacturer says 2ms it's pretty just marketing enthusiasm, and if you actually measured it, the gtg would actually be around 5ms

GTG is a more accurate way to measure response time as pixels usually change in this range. A 2ms GTG is better than a 5ms GTG and the difference is noticeable by serious gamers. Input lag is also an important factor to consider.

I'm looking for same thing, 2ms response is critical, only one I've found is:

The Asus VW266H is probably the most recommended big screen gaming monitor at the moment. I almost bought it a few weeks ago due to all the positive feedback. ZipZoomFly has the Asus for less by the way, and 3% Bing cashback would knock another $8 off the price.

I ended up finding a killer deal on an I-inc 28" monitor (Hanns-G rebrand) so i bought that instead. TigerDirect has the I-inc for $280. 5% Bing cashback would knock another $14 off, bringing it down to $264 + free shipping.

I can't help but be skeptical of a 28" for that cheap. I suppose it could just be a close-out model that they're trying to unload inventory on but still...

I'll look into that ASUS as well.

TBH, I have a semi-crappy Westinghouse 1680x1050 at the moment that I got as a gift. If I'm happy with that, I'm sure any of the monitors linked here would make me just as happy if not much moreso.

Only problem I have is if I go to 1920x1200 I'm definitely going to need to upgrade my videocard >_<
