Hi all, I think I have pretty much put together what I am going to use for my new gaming computer. Im trying to keep it under 2000$ and I think i may have done it. I would like any input on the system. Also I would like some help tips/upgrades you guys might do to it. Along with that, can people also tell me if each item is compatiable with what i selected. Well here it is guys::

Case: (Not exactly sure, could use help here. Somehting cheap but good).

Feel free to give your insight and opinions as I want them. Also add what you would rather have. Also i need some help on some cases, so if anyone knows of some cool cases for 80$ or less, that are good and dependable that would be great. Also can someone assist me and tell me whether all the components will work together?

Why spend so much money on a soundcard? Just use on board sound and make sure you have some quiet fans.

If you are near a microcenter they have the eVGA 6800GT 256 for $349....But then again they have HL2 for only $37. Love microcenter almost as much as I love Fry's....

Never heard of microcenter... what is it lol? Sounds like a cool place... cause Fry's is sweet lol :-D.

So basically I dont need to spend the extra money on the soundcard? Waste of money?
 
Im actually now thinking about cutting out the sound card, the CPU and going with a 4000+series and add another GB of ram.

I really dont understand why people spend so much money on the CPU. Your much better off buying a CPU a few steps down and overclock it. Whenever you buy the fastest or second fastest processor your always going to pay a huge premium for an extremely small performance gain.

I would suggest a Winchester 3500+. You can just overclock it past 4000+ speeds and save alot of money.

And you need a Sound Card but you DONT need the Platinum version. You would most likely never even use what the Platinum version offers over the regular ZS. Get the Audigy 2 ZS for less then $100.

I'd also buy better RAM. Corsair is good but their not the best. OCZ PC3200 Platinum Rev2 or Crucial Ballistix would be better.

But yes, Crucial Ballistix is great. Either that or Corsair.

In the paper today i found the ZS PLatinum Sound card for 99$ after rebates... do you guys think its worth it? Im still debating whether i want to use the onboard sound card or buy a new one
 
On all of my systems 2 years old and newer, I have a hard time telling the difference in sound quality between the onboard sound and my audigy platinum ex. Unless you need the features of the platinum, the onboard sound will work in just about every other case. Onboard sound really isn't that bad anymore.
 
FX-53 won't fit in a S754 board, get the abit 939 and be done with it.
As for 6800GT's... it doesn't really matter, they are all the same card at the moment and it's up to the bundles to decide which to chose.
 
Okay, since Corsair made that XL thing first, I would assume the later competitors to jump on the trend and make theirs better. So, OCZ wins this one out.

In terms of service and PCB design, Mushkin is one of the very best. Even better then Corsair.

OCZ and Crucial however have the top overclocking sticks out there and are both rated for 2-2-2-5.

The reason people think Corsair is like a god is because Corsair sends out TONS of memory for review and it gets reviewed alot more the rest of the competition. OCZ is doing a good job at keeping up though and this is why their memory is selling really well.
 
I got my 250GB Maxtor harddrive for 125, so you mite wanna look into that. Check the egg for some 250s. Cheaper then you 160.

He would be better off hitting up one of the B&M's for a HDD w/ mail in rebate. You can get them really cheap that way. Check the HotDeals section here at HardOCP.
