Thought this would be something that someone here might like.

I didn't know where to post so i figured this location was best.

Computer Desk:

This build took me about 6 hours to do. Currently consists of a lot of 2x4's, 2 pieces of plywood. My previous desk was huge and obnoxious and I couldn't stand it in the small room. This desk takes less space but has so much more in terms of expandability.

The tower legs each hold a standard size 4u Server chassis that i can easily open from underneath the base for easy access.

The top holds all my networking, power, and soon a couple more pieces.

TODO:

Paint Black
Cut top piece and install hinges for multiple storage spots.
Drill and dowel for better placement
Longer VGA, DVI Cables
Install cable routing for appearance.
Lan, USB, Power, And a couple other ports right on the front for easy use
Audio Mixer
DIY Speaker for front panel
Cup Holders
A couple more monitors
Fans for ventilation

what a clusterfuck, everything looks shitty, bleeegh. hey YO, mods, please take this thing out of here! thanks.

:D

I'd be proud to have put that together. Most people go to Ikea. If I ever get a desk to replace the one my old man built, I'll build it myself like this guy. I think it's badass and once it is stained the stark simplicity of the thing will become its own virtue.

Curious to know how much you spent on the materials. Looks very functional. GJ!

Great job!
I love the idea of a lid!

I am going to be building a desk soon and am trying to go ghetto priced with a premium look.

Looks good!

Not much on materials I am guessing as there is not much too it I would guess less then $70

How do you plan to access the laptop if there is a bunch of stuff on top of the desk?

I just purchased an electric table base I can now raise my desk between 24 and 52 inches YAY

2x4's were 2.50 a piece ... I Bought 20 but still have spare and used them for other crap too
2 Sheets of 4x8 OSB $18 a piece

$86 Dollars at the moment. Plus tax minus military discount.

The Laptop is a dedicated Firewall. Its rigged to turn on in case of power outage. Its a ClearOS build. And in the end i will have hinges on teh top in sections so that i can get in easier. But I don't ever touch it.

I am thinking of simple 8 foot 2x12s attached parallel and then putting laminate flooring on top of that to give it a hardwood apearance. Then using Pipeworks for the legs. More to it but that is the general idea.

Pipes are pricey though and may need to be cut and threaded to size.

I would rather use a 2x4 or 4x4 for legs install a large bolt in the bottom adjust for levelness

Looks nice. Once you get the cup holders installed I think you'll really be on to something here.

Cup Holders, powered USB 3.0 hub and a stainless steel sheet to put ontop ;)

It looks awesome. I always admire someone who can create something, rather than going to Ikea and buying it. Great craftsmanship here.

I am not super creative, but I was finishing up some stupid project and I looked at the leftover wood and thought, "hey, I could make a decent work bench out of this stuff."

I designed it as I built it and a pot of coffee later I had a great workbench I still have today. Of course it is covered in disorganized shit today, but if I didn't have it my shit would be on the GROUND!!

Pretty awesome what you can do with wood and drywall screws.
