Hello all,
i want to ask you your opinion about my future to be gaming rig.
I am thinking for now at:
Q9450
DFI LP UT P35-T2R Heat-pipe
2x 2x2Gb Mushkin Redline
9800GX2(BFG,EVGA,XFX...)
Antec TruePower Quattro 850W
Samsung 245B
I want it to be solid and as much as possible future-proof. I know that P35 is not X38/X48 but X38 for example doesnt allow so much overclocking like this P35.
As cooling i have a TRUE and as case Lian Li PC A-16B.
Should i buy instead of the Q9450 a Q6600? I know that the 45nm quad cannot o/c as much as the Q6600.

X38 can OC just as well as P35, but there's no point to paying such a high price premium for a board unless you need full dual 16x Crossfire.

IIRC, the Yorkfield can OC well, its the boards that can't handle such high FSB speeds when used with these quads. Hopefully Eaglelake fixes that.

You do know that Nehalem is due out at the end of this year, right? So as far as future proofing goes, you can only go so far.

Ok then, should i try to get a 790i with ddr3 so that it would be more of a long term investment? Is 790i+2gb ddr3 comparable to a p35 4gb ddr2 with same processor?

No on nF 790i/DDR3. If you ever see yourself going SLI for that 24", then you should go MSI P7N Diamond (nF 780i/DDR2).
