Games temporarily lock up?

After resolving an issue with a renegade printer driver, I thought that my smooth gaming experience would be back in action. Unfortunately, I am now experiencing a new problem:

Whenever I'm playing a graphically intensive video game, at odd moments my machine seems to "hold up". The screen locks up for as long as 20 seconds, then suddenly returns to normal as if nothing happened.

I suspect this has something to do with changing the page file when I was trying to resolve another problem. Still, I'm open to suggestions as to fixing this. Any and all help would be vastly appreciated.

What game is it happening in? How much RAM do you have in you're comp? It sounds like it's happening when it has to access the paging file. Defragging the Hard Drive would probably help if this is the case. And so it doesn't have to access the paging file as much(depending on how much you currently have), adding more RAM would help, also.
