Games Stuttering

most of the games im playing are having stuttering issues

i replaced the 660ti with the 770, still stuttering, i used every driver between 314.22 to 326.41

i defragmented the hard drive, that seemed to help, but now i just reformatted everything and reinstalled my OS (win7 64-bit), still stuttering in games, stuttering when a game is running on either my original hard drive, or this extra one i just installed
i tested both hard drives with HD-Tune and both came out just fine, including the error checking

i replaced the 8gb ddr3-1600 ram with 8gb ddr3-2400 and am still stuttering, and the ram has no errors
i tried all 3 ram slots that arent blocked by the "hyper212+ cpu cooler"

intel's official cpu tester didnt find any errors, ive been using prime95 and i dont see any issues

my internet isnt an issue at all, my ping isnt jumping around or anything, 30mb download 10mb upload

my power supply is 700w, all i have connected to my computer is a mouse, keyboard, and headset

my video card is at like 40 or 50 degrees and the hard drive is like 30-something degrees and the cpu is 30degrees idle, 40degrees in-game, 55degrees full load, and 65degrees max on prime95, the motherboard is like 30 or 40degrees

everything is plugged in nice and secure, i checked on that
everything is dust-free, i cleaned it all up deep
the air in the case isnt stuffy or anything, i got lots of positive air pressure in there

I think before anyone can attempt to help you?

You got to post more details ie - what games?

How many displays and resolutions are you attempting to run the games at?

1080P Max out settings ie - ultra everything is going to push a video card to the max vs. just running at old school 800 x 600 with moderate detail and textures?

List the brand and model numbers of the mouse, keyboard and headset. How is the headset plugged into the PC (audio port or USB)? Does the stuttering occur without the headset?

Here's a thread where they talk about problems very similar to yours:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2310110

It would be interesting to see what results you get with the DPC Latency Checker.

What I'm getting at is that it could be issues with the USB on the motherboard. It may not be fixable without replacing the motherboard, but it could also an incompatibility with one of your USB devices or even one of the drivers for your USB devices, and swapping them out for others might solve the problem.

-call of duty black ops 2
-call of duty modern warfare 3
-call of duty modern warfare 2
-call of duty world at war
-borderlands 2
-payday 2
-the sims 3

the games i did not have ANY stuttering at all ever were
-bioshock infinite
-counter strike global offensive

vsync seems to fix the stuttering in black ops 2, but not any of the other games, and ill still get a rare stutter in blops2 with the vsync on

BIOS results were about the same
+12v = 12.3--v (number higher than 12.3 slightly)
5v = 4.998 or something and 5.002 or something
3.3v = 3.334v or something
vcore = 0.968 and 0.980

mouse - thermaltake esports black
keyboard - logitech g105
headset - coolermaster cm storm sirus 2xUSB
monitor - samsung s27b550v

i tried plugging out the headset and disabling everything when it comes to audio so extra power might not go into the monitor speakers, also tried diabling the audio drivers, tried disabling even the intel hd4000 and eveything i can think of to save power, even slowing down the case fans
that didnt help at all

What resolution are you playing at?

Are you playing Single player or Multi player?

Have you adjusted power profiles to High Performance and also to Max performance in Nvidia control panel?

Have you messed with your HPET settings at all?

Might see a nice increase in performance with games on a SSD drive.

I have almost the same system specs different motherboard and a 660ti and I get no stuttering in anything I play.

I would suspect a setting in the motherboard or the motherboard flaking out.
Do you have a different motherboard you could swap with?

Are you using onboard sound or do you have a soundcard?
If onboard try disabling the hardware in device manager and see if stutter goes away.

1080p 60hz 60fps

multiplayer
i get the issues when i play thesims3 and borderlands2 alone, but connected to the internet

yeah, that didnt make a difference 'high performance' or 'adaptive'

idk what HPET is, so probably not

i dont have a motherboard to swap with this one

Kind of a shot in the dark but have you tried switching SATA cables? You'd think if it was the SATA cable all of your games would see the stuttering but maybe some load from the HDD more than others.

i did not understand what you meant at all, i tried installing Steam on either hard drive and tried loading the games from either, and i now installed my operating system on my other hard drive, not the one i originally saw the issues with

1 thing to try is to reset Nvidia control panel options back to default. I know i messed with some that caused my games to freak out...

1) If that doesn't help can you please tell me. When did this start occurring? Is this a new pc or did it just suddenly start after a long while? A little background info will help.

2) How often does the game stutter? Does it seem like a constant frame loss or does it just stutter for a few seconds and then it's ok?

Thank you,
Dill

OP - I also get stuttering in many of my games, but it's most noticeable in arpg's, like Torchlight 2, Path of Exile, and Incredible Adventures of Helsing. Not sure if your definition of stuttering or what you're observing is the same as mine's, though. I've tried about everything and have basically given up but I do have a general question for anyone who experiences stutter free gaming.

When you guys play any of the above games, if you enable vsync, assuming you have the horsepower to run the game at a locked 60 fps, does it remain locked at 60 fps? What I experience, and it's very annoying, is the game will randomly drop frames and a very noticeable stutter will occur onscreen. That's not normal behavior, correct? If my setup is powerful enough, the game should stay at a locked 60 fps, and I shouldn't experience random stutters as I'm playing the game, right? In the 3 games I mention above, I get random stutters throughout the games as I'm playing them. It's super annoying and this is something that should not be happening, correct?

This fixed all the stuttering i had seen in some games:

Go to "My Computer", then "System Properties", then "Advanced system settings" and click on the "Advanced" tab. Click "Settings" next to "Performance" and then click on "Advanced". On "Processor scheduling" select the "Programs" box. On Virtual Memory, click "Change" and untick "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" You can now enter a custom size ( 1024 should be enough ). If you have multiple drives pick a drive that doesn't contain your games and put the paging file there, then disable the paging file on all other drives. Then press set, click ok and restart your pc.

If that has not fixed the stuttering then download nvidia inspector and set a frame rate limit on your games to whatever you want. If you are using v-sync then set the frame rate limit to just above what it will v-sync at. For example if you want a v-synced 60fps then set it at 65fps.

Its pretty basic advise but this worked for me so may be worth trying.

the problem started occuring on august 1st

it seems like everything just stops for a split second, and the split second stops can be a little frequent

bytes, can u be specific with ur instructions, that sounds complicated for me to just guess around

turning down all the settings in the games didnt help

i just found out that im getting crazy amount of microstutters in counterstrike:go where my game just seems to jump back to a previous frame
v-sync is on, the game microstutters every second with a frametime going from 17ms to 21ms like every second or two

the new new nvidia driver, 326.80 did not solve the issue

i notice that i get a massive stutter in counter strike : go
when i press the ESC [escape button] and that little menu comes up, but im still able to walk around while that options window comes up
a massive stutter, like the frametime graph reaches the top of the graph for like a full second seemingly while the gpu usage drops

okay, i just noticed that i stutter in counter strike global offensive when i do " vsync + laptop power saving"
which tremendously removed the input lag
this used to never make me stutter, it is just now, it makes me stutter every second

but when i play with ONLY Vsync and disable the other setting, i dont get any stuttering at all

You shouldnt have power saving features on while gaming anyway and its a desktop! This is most likely the problem all along

What he said.. I would change your settings for your system for performance not power saving. Do the same for your video card in the Nvidia Control panel. I would also enabled the feature to draw additional frames before you incur them. I forget what option that is in the Nvidia Control Panel but it helped with Planetside 2.

the "laptop power saving" is a IN-GAME setting in counter strike

it locks the framerate to 59fps or something i think

its NOT the "power options" in windows

an IN-GAME setting that reduced v-sync input lag

NOT "power options" in windows

please help me guys, i did SO MUCH troubleshooting

Responding to the screenshot of your Nvidia Control Panel global settings, set "Power management mode" to "Prefer Maximum Performance". (This setting only applies to games and 3D applications, not to Windows desktop and other non-3D apps.) Do this both globally and in the games that you are having problems.

Also, regarding "laptop power saving" in GS:GO:

http://steamcommunity.com/app/730/discussions/0/846939071340125862/

You are going to have to turn it off and find another way to reduce vsync input lag.

i tried the max performance and it didnt work

i just swapped my 700w power supply and put in a 750w and it didnt work

Framerate looks to be smooth but that GPU usage is staggering. This leads me to beleive it is more then likely a driver issue. I would unistall your current Nvidia driver and then run a Driver cleaner to remove all traces on Nvidia on your machine, then reboot and try opening the game as it should work fine with the Windows generic driver.

I'll just throw this out there, but... make sure you're not set to fullscreen windowed mode in your game options. (Typically where the resolution settings are.)

Otherwise my only other idea is to go into the BIOS and disable Intel SpeedStep and see if it makes any difference at all.
