I was just looking through the Call of Duty readme because I'm actually having different problems but anyway... I read that it needs at least a 600 MB page file on XP or 2000 to run w/o getting low virtual memory warnings. Now I know that a lot of you have told me that no games use a page file and that its okay to disable it, here what the read me says
Users playing on machines using the Windows® 2000/XP operating systems that possess less than 600 megabytes (MB) of virtual memory may receive low virtual memory warnings. To avoid these warnings, please make sure you set your virtual memory settings to at least 600 megabytes (MB). In addition, the warning occurs when switching video settings while in the game. If you are in a game and you want to switch video settings, please exit to the main menu first and then make the desired changes.
Now I just left my page file at the reccomended size that it told me (like 1533 I think) so I didn't get this error, just wanted to share with your guys.

P.S. that 1533 setting was damn close to what I came to using that one method in the virtual memory thread in the sticky. So I just used it.

dont disable virtual memory as if your physical memory fails with no pageing file to fall back on you will have a total system failure and crash

I have never disabled my virtual memory nor have I ever even set it low. Despite what many people told me on here about not needing it.

think about why they put that in there... then ask yourself how much memory you have in your machine. Do you honestly think that the programmers will code specifically for a pagefile? Fuck no.
I have always diabled my pagefile. You just have to ask yourself...what is faster? a stick of memory or a hard drive?

You can only disable your page file if you're sure that your system will never require more space than you have in your RAM. Since Fark happens to have a gig, it might not be a problem, but if you have 256 or 512 and you have a lot of junk running it is very possible that your computer will bitchslap you because you ran out of space and close some stuff down.
