Finally pieced together a new computer after a few years and I'm going from a 1.4 Athlon w/ a GeForce 3 to a 3.4 P4 w/ a Radeon X800 XT PCIE.

Anyone have any recommendations on games or demos to show off the new system? So far I'm looking forward to playing Doom 3 with over 10fps, Far Cry and upcoming Half-Life 2.

I'm just looking for any game or demo at all to impress me and keep my mind off the 3K I just spent on parts. Suggestions?

Scrapland (demo)
Silent Hill 3 (10 bucks, high texture res is incredible 1600x1200 with 2040x2040 textures)
Sims 2 (no joke)
Mc..something Rally racing (demo...AWESOME visuals)
Warhammer 10,000 Dawn of war (demo)
Splinter cell:pandora tomorrow (demo)

All good games for showing off your card and system :)
I know the feeling you had :p

Another vote for Silent Hill 3. Maxed it looks great.
Far Cry, the water and landscapes are gorgeous.
Another for Sims2, my fiance is playing it next to me on the gaming rig and it does look damn good.

I've been wanting to try the Silent Hill series for awhile. I'm a fan of the Resident Evil series but I'm wondering if you can pick up from 3 and not miss much storyline wise.

Also, how is Silent Hill 4? Same graphical quality?

The Silent Hill games are not truly interconnected. There is no particular need to have played 2 to go on to 3. (Though personally I thought 2 a bit better than 3)
I can only go on rumor and review for #4. It looks better than any. It is the weakest in terms of plot and gameplay.

Silent Hill 3 does help if you played silent hill one (being more of sequal)

buuuut I didn't know that :) and I started on 3, But it does do a recap of what happend in one so I wasn't totally confused. Although I'm sure I lost some of the impact of the characters.

Silent hill 2 is more stand alone

Now in regards for graphics in SH4, i've heard the environments aren't as good as they were in part 3 for PC, but the hero of the game has some incredible textures going on to show off that card. But still a graphically cool game to show off from what I gather

but for 10 bucks for part 3...can you really go wrong? It'll show off your card nicely. WAY better looking that PS2 could do for it
