Well, I just received the Gamecube Mario Party 7 bundle for Christmas, and I was wondering what titles people suggest I should look into getting. I just got Mario Kart DD and MP7 Came with it. I was looking at:

SM Sunshine
Wind Waker
SSB Melee
Super Monnkey Ball 2
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles

And before anyone suggests Nintendo Pants.....I got 'em :p

So comment on the list and add or remove games as you see fit. I was looking at spending around $100 on games (another present from rich relatives), so keep the list as near to that as possible. I also picked up the 1019 mem card already for $22.

The two Metroid Prime games are probably my favorite games of the last 5 years.

QFT

The Mario games, RE series, MGS remake, Mario Party, Animal Crossing, Final Fantasy,
The new Zelda and thats just off the top of my head.

Resident evil 4 and any of the others, since they are all on gamecube.

Wind Waker is awesome, and really really long, i'm still not through it and i've had it for a long ass time.

The star wars rogue squadron games are good if you were into those on N64, and super smash bros meelee is fun if you can gather enough ppl to bash it out with.

Eternal darkness > RE4 ;)

For some reason, I got rather bored of Darkness quickly, and sold it after playing like a half hour of it. (Did I make a mistake? Is there something more to the game?)

Metroid Prime 2 is $19.99. Anyone object to it replacing Super Monkey Ball 2 on the list? I think I have too many party games now anyway.

The new Super Mario Strikers that just came out, is rather fun...simplistic but I find it very highly entertaining. Also if you are into sports Mario Tennis, Baseball, and Golf are all very good games. That is if you don't mind everything being so well... mario.

If you own nintendo pants you MUST BUY Mario Dance Dance Revolution.

I am going to try and give a recomendation that doesn't have mario in it-Prince of Persia the sands of time :)

Or get mario dance dance revolution and party it up!

Is there any reason to get SOT for Gamecube and not PC or PS2?

Assuming you don't already own it..

It looks nicer on the gamecube vs the ps2, and if you don't own a gamepad for the PC than it may be a more enjoyable experience.

How about:

Viewtiful Joe Red Hot Rumble
Soul Calibur II
Super Smash Brothers Melee
Pikmin 2
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat

Some of these games can be had for next to nothing used. Others are just plain cheap.. :p

I bought my little sister a GameCube for Christmas, and I'm really trying to resist taking the damn thing for myself.

I always beat her in Mario Kart Double Dash. :D

For some reason, I had the thought today to buy a Gamecube. Why? I don't know. Considering I kinda swore away from the Nintendo stuff a while ago when I got my XBox... I guess the Revolution coming up has got me excited, and the XBox/XBox 360 doesn't seem that thrilling with all the gaming I do on my computer these days (I have a 360 controller for PC too).

I guess overall the Nintendo games are more different from what you get on PC, wheras XBox seems a lot closer to PC (and it seems to be getting closer). So I'll watch this thread for recommendations on what to get... and I may pick up a Gamecube sometime soon (maybe today?)

external darkness was awesome.. but the replay value sucked.. i couoln'dt play it again after i beat it once..

You could also get the Gameboy player which will allow you to play Classic Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games on your Gamecube.

Soul Calibur 2
Metroid Prime 1&2 (If only one, get the first. It's much better.)
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Legend of Zelda: The WInd Waker(A lot of people don't like it, a lot of people do. Try before you buy.)
Resident Evil 4
Pikmin 2(Really addictive, and really fun.)

That's all I've got for now. I find the Gamecube is more of a compliment to a PC than the Xbox, which tries to be more of a replacement. The PS2 is good too.

Wind Waker is probably one of the best gaming experiances I've ever had. Also loved Paper Mario 2.

Pikimin 2, RE4, and Metal Gear Solid, Super Mario Sunshine, and Final Fantasy Chrysal (sp?) Chronicles are all in my library.

I've heard good things about Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars, and the "Tales" series. I'm not fan of strat rpgs, though, or ones that have active battle systems.

All listed are great games, if your going to use it as a party appliance get some wavebirds, I just picked up 2 more for mine.

Going over to the GFs parents place for dinner tonight and there is going to be a mario party/smb throw down afterward. :D

Crystal.

And about Wind Waker.. I think its cool now that I've played it for a bit, I didnt really like the starting though.. Some may agree, but some may disagree because it isnt the same ol same ol, so far at least.

-Edit-

And I so wish you could buy new copies of the Master Quest/Orcarina of Time and the Collection one.. I didnt even know the collection one existed, and I thought you could only get the Master Quest/Orcarina of Time remake when you like, pre-ordered windwaker or something before it was released.. /shrug, I missed out /cries

I have to toss my hat in the ring for the two metroid games! I purchased my gc way back in Oct of 02' (wedding present from wife) just for metroid prime! Goddam game was awesome and I only now have really gotten into MP2 (I had it since launch and never played it) and that is even more than I expected! I have to say when you do get bored of the party games you do have please give super monkey ball 2 a chance, it's a really fun game! Oh if you don't have any wavebirds get them, they are hands down the best controllers ever made. Well that's my .2

Yeah I just kind of gave up on spelling it out but it was alot of fun for two people with gameboys. If you're trying to get your girl into gaming it's a good choice.

Ikaruga (best. game. ever.)
Viewtiful Joe (I've heard Red Hot Rumble wasn't all that great but I loved the original game)
Mario Power Tennis ain't bad, not as much fun as the N64 version
Animal Crossing

A surprisingly large amount of ps2/xbox games are available on GC, you just don't hear about them because people associate the gc with kid's games. But you can get MK games for it, as well as Marvel vs SNK 2.

DudeItsMe, you just hit the nail on the head on why I buy Nintendo consoles in the first place, and why I didn't own an XBox last round (I already have a PC), and got a PS2 instead.

Zelda: Wind Waker was fantastic. The visual style was awesome, IMO, since it looked so much like the NES/SNES Zeldas. In fact, the only game that looks better than Wind Waker is RE4 (which is another MUST have on the system). The only downside to Wind Waker is that there's a lot of fetching (in the water this time), but that's not unusual in the world of Zelda. Twilight Princess is coming as well, if you liked the Ocarina style.

Animal Crossing = crack, but the DS version is better, unless you like playing old NES titles ;)

All the Mario Sports are fantastic arcade titles, so you should pick your fave sport and get the corresponding Mario title for it...

I'm still waiting on getting Ikaruga (damnit!), but Eternal Darkness is definately one of the most underrated titles ever, along with Beyond Good and Evil. Those should be considered.

Final Fantasy was decent, but only if you have a gameboy advance, and friends with a gameboy advance. Single player was meh... multiplayer was a lot of fun. The same goes for Zelda: 4 Swords.

Viewiful Joe (the orignal), Pikmin, Mario Sunshine, and Super Monkey Ball 2 are all awesome awesome games, and Donkey Konga 1/2 is along the lines of Mario Party, in that you can get ANYONE to play it, and the more kongos that you own, the more insane the party game is. Jungle Beat is a 2D adventure game (like DK Country on SNES) that you play with Bongos, so it's definately different, but fun. Same goes for Mario DDR.

Mario Sunshine and Smash Bros are both extremely fun (Sunshine = extremely challenging, NOT for kids, Smash Bros = insananity on a disc)

Metroid Prime games are two of the best 10-15 titles to come out accross ANY platform. All in all, it's really hard to make a decision on what to get, since there are so many good games. But do yourself a favour, and make sure that Zelda and RE4 are among them :)

Should I go for Super Smash Brother bundle or Mario Party Bundle?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but both games lack much depth for singeplayer, right?

Yeah but you can get a lot more out of the Smash single player than MP, because there's tons of single player missions and unlockables. It's certainly more fun with friends, but it's still fun without.

edit: so get the Smash bundle :)

From what I see on amazon, the smash bros bundle only comes with one controller. And no microphone :(.

I wasn't aware you needed a microphone

...What for? And is it a special Gamecube microphone, or are there other options that would be compatable?

Mario party 6 and 7 have voice games. I hear there pretty decent too.

I tried the one on MP7, and while I might not have found all of them, there seems to only be 1, which is a memory game in which you speak into the mic in order to play. you can also use the controller if you're not into the mic.

Doesn't sound like something to justify getting a mic IMO.

I just got my TV tuner running smoothly on my computer so I can run my XBox and SNES from up here. Still thinking I'll add a Gamecube to that bundle... looking at the games the prices are so cheap!

Now I just have to decide what I'm going to get. I'm thinking I'll go with the Mario Party 7 bundle, as it is all that is in stock at my local Circuit City (I have $70 in gift cards there), then pick up one or two more games, one of which will be from Wal-Mart ($20 gift card there).

So I still haven't decided what I'll get for one or two games. I like a wide variety of games, but don't want anything that would be better on the PC (I have a perfectly functional PC here... just beat NFS:MW). Animal Crossing is one game I may definetly pick up. Metroid games sound popular, but I'd have to look into them. Also Super Smash Brothers was fun on the N64, but the single-player would really have to be strong for me to get the game (who knows if I'll get anyone to play it with me).

Anyone got any ideas? Feel free to hit me up on AIM, TrumpDaBeast, if you want to influence my buying decisions before I go later today (most likely)

There are more mic games than the one you mentioned, spydermonkey. The one you're talking about is just when you land on the mic space on the game board. There are plenty more. While Mario Party 6 had MORE mic games (including a mario jeopardy controlled completely by the mic), Mario Party 7 has more multiplayer-centric mic titles. You just have to be sure to have the mic plugged in when you boot the game in order for the titles to appear during play.

While Smash Bros is an excellent game, you get more for your money with the Mario Party bundle. Smash Bros = 1 gamecube, 1 controller, 1 game. Mario Party Bundle = 1 gamecube, 2 controllers, 1 mic, 1 game... Not to mention that Mario Party 7 by itself is $40-50, while Smash Bros by itself is $20 (player's choice title). Definately go for the Mario Party bundle. FYI, you don't NEED the mic to play Mario Party, but it definately adds a nice dimension to gameplay.

I also forgot to mention, if you like Japanese RPG's, Tales of Symphonia is EXCELLENT. And if you were a fan of the old Rare (i.e. Goldeneye) check out Timesplitters 3 - it is indeed the Goldeneye team that left Rare, and multiplayer (co-op or deathmatch) is a blast in that game!

Tales of Symphonia is a good RPG, not turn-base, real-time fighting. It took me a long time to beat, 2 disks!!! Good times Good Times. Also, I've been meaning to get those Mario sport titles, is multi-player than the single-player?

*Edit* Um.. That's an obvious answer... heh

RE4.

I never actually played it, but I did watch the whole game. It was great. Nice and long too.

However, I did play the Resident Evil Remake after watching RE4, and I hated that with a passion...It was nothing like 4. So if you've played and hated the other ones, this may just be one for you. ^_^

Viewtiful Joe was pretty damn fun, only played it for about 15 minutes, though. I'm going to have to rent that one someday soon. :p

Is anyone else scared by the fact that he has a 1up in his pants?

(ah good, somebody did mention ikaruga)

Silly, I always have a mushroom in my pants! On to gaming news. I swung by EBgames here in Paso Robles today. They have 4 x360's premium and 4 core, if anyone's interested. Well, I think I bugged the hell out of the cashier, but i got the motherload.

All for the measely price of $101. EB had a buy 3 preowned, get one free sale. I might have to drop a class once school starts :p.

Look what came in the mail today!

ZOMG! I'm in gaming Heaven!

I was kinda dissapointed that they didn't have any metroid prime's, but I think I'll be ok.

Great choices. Couple with the Mario Party bundle you got, you'll be in gaming heaven. Both single and multiplayer. Get Metroid Primes when you're done those games :)

Dreamcast FTW!

Well I went to Circuit City and picked up a Gamecube and Animal Crossing.

And...

I ended up with the regular Gamecube (not the Mario Party bundle) cause apparently the idiots at Circuit City can't correctly stock an item. It WAS in the area tagged for the Mario Party bundle, but that's not what I got. So I'll be returning it. HOPEFULLY I get the money back in cash of some sort (I had gift cards) so I can buy it someplace that actually has it.

Someone already beat me to Ikaruga, but other good games include:

Super Monkey Ball 1: I preferred this over the sequel.
F-Zero GX: Great racing game that I felt was much better than Double Dash.
Paper Mario 2: One of the few strong RPGs on the Gamecube.

Fire Emblem path of radiance,
Zelda games,
Metroid prime series,
Tales of Symphonia,
Starfox Assault,
Viewtiful series,
Ikaruga,
Geist,
Mario Sunshine/paper mario,
Custom Robo...

All worth getting
