Maybe you guys can help me out with this.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the game soundtracks that I can get on CD? Maybe there is a site that has a list of the top 10 game sound track cds or something.

thanks for the help.
 
Quick google search turned up gamemusic.com but I haven't used it before. It has a number of top ten, top 40 lists. Actually looks like kind of a cool site.

It's through Cocoebiz and is mostly Japanese imports since there aren't too many English game soundtracks released. It is pricey though... $30-$40 for one disc isn't uncommon. Lots of good stuff on here.

Aside from that, I'd check eBay where you can get a lot of soundtracks, but they're mostly identical looking bootleg versions. I've actually bought a few Zelda ones and they sound good enough to me. The downside is that the people who created the music get nothing that way, but avoiding the premium of getting something from Japan may be worth it... pay $15 instead of $50 for instance.
 
The more popular games have American OST releases (I think anyways).

Example, you can get almost all the FF OSTs released from amazon.com, but that's because FF is insanely well known. You'd prolly have a harder time finding the Xenogears OST or similar.

Also, just wondering... is there any legal or moral issues with downloading video game music through P2P? I'd imaging that game soundtracks are NOT RIAA protected, and any income these soundtracks generate for the game developer would be minimal compared to the game's sale. That's assuming they get ANY of the money. I know a lot of game soundtracks are bootlegs themselves (SonMay, EverAnime, and Alion come to mind).

If you're looking for soundtracks from Japanese games, you're in luck: many Japanese games have soundtrack releases. I would recommend CDJapan for anything that's still in print. They only sell new, legitimate releases, and the prices are as cheap as you'll find them anywhere; international shipping is kind of expensive, though. I would not recommend eBay for soundtracks because most CDs available are bootlegs. If you're looking for out-of-print soundtracks, I suggest Yahoo! Japan auctions via Shopping Mall Japan or some other deputy service. You're not likely to find any bootlegs on Y!J auctions.

As for American game soundtracks, I'm afraid that you're out of luck. Few American games have soundtrack releases. This seems to be changing, though; some of the more recent games have soundtrack CDs available.
