Game recommendation

Lately, I've been getting the urge to play a turn-based war game similar to Panzer General or People Tactics. Since time and money is limited, can anyone recommend a good one? I don't particularly care which time frame it is in--Civil War, WWI, WWII it all makes no difference to me. I've already played Empire Total War and it really wasn't what I was looking for.... Thanks!

My dad plays all those games so I should ask him for some recommendations.

Other than that, a RTS of WWII you could try (I know it's not Turn based) is Company of Heroes.

For turn-based play, you might want to play Europa Universalis. Demo is available on steam.
