Ok, created a new thread since I can't edit the title of my old one. Heres the old one for part reference:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1285839

When I play wow(at any resolution or setting), it runs perfectly smooth around 55-60 fps. But whenever a notice pops up, the song in winamp changes, or I transmit in vent, my fps suddenly to about 9 for about 5 seconds. It then just goes back to 60 fps. All my drivers(at least I'm sure they are) up to date. I've tried closing pretty much all my other programs too. Does anyone know the issue? I really wanna listen to music and vent while playing wow. Thanks!

Bump. I've been playing with the fps drop the whole time and it's getting really annoying since I transmit a lot in vent. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Is it possible that you are doing too many things at once? I know you have a dualcore, but if you are playing WOW, playing music, etc. you may be using both cores. Check your cpu utilization. It could also be the hard drive slowing you down because you are doing all these things and they are all occuring from the same drive.

Maybe it is an overload on the processor, but I was able to do it fine with my old comp(just at a lower consistent fps). It only happens when I initially transmit in vent(fine if I hold it for a while or someone else transmits), or if I play a song and it happened to be playing for a while already. My aim program(digsby) also has these notification windows and it lags on those too.

But I've also tried closing everything except for a single program, one time with vent, one time with winamp, but it still had fps drops at even the lowest settings. I dual boxed( 2 wows) at the settings i normally used and cpu was at about 72% each and the 2nd window lagged at first, but was fine after.
I'm not sure how I will test the hdd thing though xD
