So, this year was quite possibly the best year of gaming for me. Tons of games that I looked forward to and many that did not disappoint. This year I believe I spent more hours in games but overall completion rate was much lower than last years.

A few noticeable changes for me this year included:

RPGs/Action RPGs: Everything has become an RPG. It is no longer confined to the genre and this year the depth of customization, longevity of an average game and storylines and decking out your character consumed a lot of time. Be it Destiny to Witcher 3. Or Ass Creed Syndicate to Tomb Raider. Even Farcry 4 had tons of customization more than I liked. What this meant is that average hours per games increased by 2-3X for me.

Restraint: This year especially I believe I finally restrained myself from purchasing too many games. I think normally my runrate was about 60-75 games across 3-4 platforms. This year I was in the late 30s/early 40s. This meant I have a backlog but one that I want. I also said no to humble bundles and cheap prices. This steam sale I have about 40 games in wishlist that I wanted but still didn't buy. Next year my target is below 30 in terms of game purchases. I have enough games to last me all of next year already so adding 30 would be a shit ton.

Double dipping: I realized that on PC I am no longer able to spend 70-80 hours per RPG. So I did double dipping for longer games including Dragon Age Inquisition and Witcher 3. This meant that I still have about 10-15 hours per game on PC whereas, the bulk of my time was spent on PS4. I avoided this for Fallout 4 which I only have on PS4 and will try to avoid for Rise of Tomb Raider which I only have on XBONE.

DLC Avoidance: I avoided most of the DLC this year. The only ones I indulged in were Witcher 3 expansions and Batman AK season pass that I got for 11 bucks. Other than that, I am avoiding DLC completely. Most notable was BF Hardline and BLOPS 3 Season Pass (may still buy it but only if I see a community at the time of release).

So, here is my game completion list for this year. I think before the year is over I will have Rise of Tomb Raider and possibly Until Dawn also chalked up on the list.

Completed
Stanley Parable
Assassin's Creed Unity
Call of Duty Advanced Warfare
Ryse Son of Rome
Fast and Furious
Dragon Age Inquisition
GTA V
Order 1886
Batman Arkham Knight
Farcry 4
Wolfenstein Old Blood
Assassin's Creed Rogue
Hitman Absolution
Destiny Taken King
Destiny House of Wolves
Tales from Borderlands
Forza Horizon 2
Halo 5

I am also adding near completion to this list since I spent quite a lot of quality time playing and enjoying these games.

Near completion
Mad Max
Until Dawn
Rise of Tomb Raider
Saints Row 4
Dying Light
Forza 6
Uncharted 1
Borderlands Pre Sequel
Battlefield Hardline
Mortal Kombat X
Lego Lord of the Rings

I think this year was an absolute fantastic year for gaming. What do you guys think?

Is there a reason you play games more on console when you have a high end PC?

I also don't understand why people start multiple story based games at a time, and then switch between them every few hours. I just pick a game and finish it unless it is so broken you can't finish it.

Finished (I included links to my reviews of the games, sadly my in-depth review of DA:I is in the wind after the forum I posted it on decided to close without warning) :
Dragon Age Inquisition : I started when it was released, it took me close to 6 months to finish
Mad Max : Really great game, that didn't get the hype it deserved
Fallout 4 : Easily GOTY, spent over 100 hours with it in 1.5 months, haven't had that happen to me in like ever.

Started playing but didn't finish:
GTAV : The story is just so uninteresting, with completely unrelatable characters, there is just nothing to keep me going, with the gameplay being exactly the same as GTAIV.
Mass Effect : I started playing again, but I got bored after Virmire. I thought 2 years since the last playtrough would make a difference, but I finished it so many times that every last detail is burnt into my memory.
DeusEx Human Revolution Director's Cut : I tried playing it, I only finished the original release once when it was new. But this game is nothing like the old DeusEx, it's just not interesting enough, there are no additional nuances and intricacies to discover with each new playtrough as I found out, so I got bored pretty quickly. Long before I'd reach the part where the additional content would make a difference.
Mortal Kombat X : The story was just too cheesy. The gameplay a struggle.

Still playing:
Dragon Age II : Hoping to finish it before the year is over
Test Drive Unlimited II : I loved the original TDU, I was a beta tester, and played the shit out of it even after release, just driving for hours even in freeride. But I never actually got into TDU II, until I bought it a few days before Christmas. But it feels very dated now, but there is still some fun to be had with it, if only the physics wasn't so dumbed down compared to TDU. But realistically there is no chance that I'll finish it before the year's over.

Other than Stanley parable it looks like you just dragged your arm across a shelf at walmart.

I beat Dishonored
almost finished Divinity Original Sin
Vermintide played all maps =)

for that my game buying habits are curbed going to focus on my other hobby art.

This was probably the worst year of gaming for me. I only finished one game that came out this year, which was Dying Light.

Other than that, I've been working my way through the CoD series single player campaigns on PC.
  • Call of Duty
  • Call of Duty: United Offensive
  • Call of Duty 2
  • Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
  • Call of Duty: World at War
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Others finished:
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts (Playstation 4)
  • Gears of War Remastered (Xbox ONE)
  • Tomb Raider Definitive Edition (Xbox ONE)
Wall of Shame (games purchased, not even opened/installed):
  • Assetto Corsa (PC - Windows)
  • Bloodborne (Playstation 4)
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition (PC - Windows)
  • F1 2015 (PC - Windows)
  • Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (Playstation 4)
  • Halo 5: Guardians (Xbox ONE)
  • Mad Max (PC - Windows)
  • The Order: 1886 (Playstation 4)
  • Transformers: Devastation (PC - Windows)
  • Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (Playstation 4)
  • Until Dawn (Playstation 4)
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PC - Windows)
To be fair about the racing games, my computer room is currently not ready to accept my steering wheel setup and I refuse to play them with a controller.

I have a poor completion rate. I think BF4 campaign was the last game I completed in the past few years, I only finished the campaign because the internet was going to be out for 6 hours.

GTA5 only 7% completed. I just get behind the wheel and just go batshit crazy killing people, lol
Witcher 3, started the game to show a friend what it looks like.
Just Cause 3, played for 20-30 minutes

and there are a lot more that I start playing then just end up losing interest for some reason.

Huge list you got there, OP. Seems like a good year of gaming for you. Here are my 2015 Completions:

Ryse Son of Rome
Grand Theft Auto V
Witcher 2
Witcher 3
Diablo 3
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
The Wolf Among Us
The Walking Dead

I was very busy in 2015, not much gaming happened, plus I didn't find anything overwhelming to play that was new.

I completed Mad Max.
I replayed Metro 2033 Last Light, Redux
I replayed Doom 3 with High Definition mods.
I played some Crysis3.

I have tried to play Far Cry 4, but it was so like Far Cry3.
I started Dying Light and Shadow of Mordor, but I found both tedious.

Probably still need to update my spreadsheet but this is what I completed in 2015.

Crysis 2
Starcraft:Legacy of the Void
May Payne 3
Tomb Raider
Hitman:Absolution
Hitman: Blood Money
Dishonored
Bioshock:Infinite
Bioshock 2:
Dead Island Riptide
Resident Evil 6
Dead Island
